Gear box oil

Featured Replies

Just wanting to get some ideas about different brands people have used and if the change has improved. I've had quite a notchy gear change for some time now. So far I've done several realignments, changed the oil using the standard vag oil, fitted the draft bushings, new slave cylinder ( due to the old one failing ) bled system through. But its no better. I'm starting to suspect clutch ( 120k ) but its not slipping yet so I don't really want to replace that just yet.

Millers EE 75w90 NANODRIVE

£13 per litre.

I have no crunches, no notches

Smooooooother as butter

Could be your pressure plate giving way, may not be clamping down as hard as it should.

Well yeah the more things I try and it stays the same I'm starting to think a new clutch is in need. One last thing to try before the box has to come out. Just ordered some redline Mt 90 75w/90 gear oil.

It's not the oil - no need to change it again. How did you bleed the clutch? It should be power bled at 2bar.

I didn't do it myself it was a main Skoda dealer. Its a poor gear change THE worst box I've ever used.

i use Aral for gb oil, works perfect

you should really use the vw gear oil - think it is g060 or something. other who have not used this have had problems

also try a gearshift realignment - youtube tutorials are simple to follow

I have this for the old Fabia VRS.

OP refilled with genuine VAG gearbox oil.

Change mine every couple of years with OEM from TPS, £12 for 2 litres never had any probs and nice smooth gear change.

Its a long shot but I could try bleeding it again just to see if that works. Anyone know the best way to do it. From the slave up maybe?

To be honest i would be looking at wear in the gear syncros at 120k if you havnt had it from new.

Well, I've changed the box oil for redline stuff. Ran the car a couple of days and done another alignment and its definitely improved the gear change. Its not like brand new obviously but its a fair bit better. So if it stays like that I can put the gearbox removal off for a while. I'd recommend the redline MT90.
