Dipping reverse mirror does not return to normal position when in drive?

Featured Replies

Hi guys

for 4 months I have had no problems with this but yesterday for no reason the reverse dipping mirror failed to revert back to the normal position once put into dive.

Has anybody had this experience and knows how to resolve?

I have tried resetting but no luck.

cheers

It sometimes happens to me though usually when I have altered the seat. I have found that by pressing the memory function for my driving postion resets the mirror.

Mine went the other way, wouldn't drop then all of a sudden it started. The wing mirror selector was in the same position the whole time!

When I turn my ignition off the passenger mirror drops down very slightly. Hugely annoying.

I have the same same problem with my 2010 Superb.  For 3 years, the passenger wing mirror would return to it original position after dipping, once I had finished reversing and started driving forwards.  Now, the mirror no longer reverts back to its original position, and I have to move it manually using the remote switch.  It is rather annoying, but not annoying enough for me to pay the dealer to look into it and repair it.

I have experienced a few other issues with my Superb in recent months:

- Failure of the twin boot electric unit, which had to be replaced at the cost of £200, and

- The rear brake disc clamped onto the rear wheel while we were on holiday, meaning we were stranded on a remote island for days.  Once we had been towed back to the mainland, the Skoda dealer couldn't explain the cause, and simply recommended replacing rear discs and pads - which they did.  Another £200.  But it was their inability to diagnose the problem which annoyed me the most.

So, all combined, it's left a bitter taste, and made me question buying another Skoda (which I always thought I would).

Had my new car just one day and already noticed..........that the mirror doesn't revert back to normal driving position after reversing.  :wall:

The door mirror 'tucky in' facility is all a bit hit and miss too tbh, so think I'll resort to doing it manually if and when required.

I wouldn't advise pushing the mirrors in manually as you may damage them.  How are you trying to fold them - is it with the key fob?

No. It's operated on the mirror adjustment button.

Don't know why they don't just fold in automatically when you take the ignition key out like they do on my sons Fiesta.

Suppose your best option is to just hold down the button on the fob for a couple of seconds when you lock the car, which will also lock any open windows as well. Don't think there is straightforward VCDS coding for this either without some extra work involved ( I may be corrected there). The internal switch should work though if it's in the correct position - there may be a delay of a second or two when you flick it into that position sometimes.

Enjoy that new car feeling:)

It's  gone off topic slightly this now.

I've tried all configurations, and yes, it sometimes works a treat, but other times the mirrors stubbornly stay static.

It's not that importnat or life threatening really, so won't be kicking a dust up about it until it goes into the dealer in 12 months time for its 1st service or sooner if needs must.

The dipping mirror moved itself back to normal position automatically last night btw.

Bit random these external mirrors ey?

Are you shure? My mirror reverts to the normal position when exceeding 15 Km/h (about 10 mph) not directly after putting it in to first gear. I can also get it to go back to the normal position if i move the mirror adjustment button to to any other position than "R" (witch is the position the button should be in for the mirror to dip here in Sweden, I guess its the "L" position in the UK?)

Have you just solved the mystery then?  :o

Hadn't noticed tbh but will be watching it this morning!

Weird if true. Why would you have to go forward at 10 mph to revert the mirror back to normal position?

Time to get the dreaded copy of War and Peace out I suspect (owners manual   )

Mine does this too, bang on 10mph and it pops up. Presumably if you reverse in to a space and then pull forward a short distance to adjust your position it stops it raising and lowering in quick succession.

Yes above 15kph and they return to normal position for me too.

I'm straining at the leash to get out and try this now!

Mystery solved through the superb Superb collective it seems, whuhey!    :D

Wasn't happy taking my eyes off the road to watch the speedo and mirror, but IT WORKED!!!!!

Mystery definitely solved!!

...and after me messing about with maxidot last night, I seem to have inadvertently turned the dipping door mirror in reverse facility off!  :wall:

Well this mirror of mine has started just moving fractionally sideways/outwards now, not dipping.

1st fault is it?

Have you checked that it Is properly clipped onto the motor inside the housing?

Have you set it up correctly?

On maxidot, yes.

I've turned the function of and back on again.

It is moving when I go into reverse, but barely now.

All seems to be clipped into the housing ok.

Yes, but have you dipped the mirror to where you want it to go and then saved the setting?

Errrr,.... no tbh.

Didn't know you had to do that.

Probably worth checking the manual but I think its: switch on the ignition, switch the mirror knob to L, engage reverse, move the mirror to your preferred dipped position, back to neutral, switch off ignition and hey presto, dipping mirror stored to the key. Remember it needs to be in 'L' to dip when you reverse.
