dirt in handbrake

Featured Replies

Just had 50k service on 4x4 140 tdi Yeti and the fitter told my wife that the handbrake had "dirt in it" and that it would cost about £100.00 to sort.

Anyone had the same and is it difficult to DIY? Cheers

Sounds to me like a female surcharge, surely it doesn't still exist?!

In the rural areas they would have said, madam you have soil in your brakes....not you got dirt in 'em.

Still does not beat my MOT failure for 1 item....an Oak Tree smelly hanging from the rear view mirror. Now that takes some beating.

I think I would be asking them for a few more details.

Well they are being correct to the letter of the MOT Operators Instructions, but also obviously lacking in common sense; they could have just removed it. When mine went in for testing recently they removed both the phone and sat nav holders from the screen.

as has every other MOT station I have used. Needless to say I don't use that garage now.

What does " dirt in the handbrake " mean?

£100 on the bill...

Unless the " dirt" is in the handbrake lever blind causing it to stick. Easy to fix with silicon grease spray or furniture polish sprayed in the gap along the length of the blind. Certainly not £100 to fix, even if the blind is completely stuck there is a guide on how to strip down and repair in the octavia section.

She should have replied, " then fix it dear Henry, dear Henry...........
