Rattle/ knock on cold idle

Recommended Posts

My recently purchased octy 1.4 tsi makes a strange rattle or knock when it's idling. The thing is it stops when the clutch pedal is depressed. It's really annoying. I've been back to the dealer with another issue and mentioned this and was told it does that, it's something to do with the turbo when the engines started. What rubbish.

I recently bought a 1 year old mk3 Octavia 1.4TSI elegance which has the same rattling / knocking noise as you describe. It only seems to happen on idle when cold and goes away when I press down the clutch.

I'm going to mention it to the dealer, and see what they say. Did you get any further with your dealer?

I do wonder whether this is "normal" or a sign of a problem.

I haven't had chance to speak to the dealer yet. It seems definitely to be related to the clutch. Maybe a linkage or release bearing or something. The noise is very noticeable even outside the car. It surely can't be normal.

I tried to do the same Andy, but couldn't pick the noise up on my phone either. It did sound loud to me though.

I'm getting the dealer to take a look at it this week so I'll let you know how I get on. It's an intermittent problem for me, so knowing my luck it won't be making the noise when they look at it.

Hi,

Did anyone get help from dealer or fix this problem somehow?

I ask this question because I had same noise and dealer replace cluch, car mileage was then 30000. After replacement the noise was much quieter and did not bother anymore. But now mileage is 60000 and it seems that noise is coming back. This noise is not every time when cold engine run idle, but if i turn on more electrical consumers (lights, rear window defroster) on, it more liklely do this. And if you pressed cluch pedal down the noise is gone - engin run smooth and quietly. To change cluch every 30000 km does not feel a good solution.

I look forward to your experience...
