Instrument warning light layout and self test sequence

Featured Replies

I suspect that one or more of my instrument warning lights might not be working correctly. For example, I have the 1.6 TDI engine and do not see the DPF warning light come on during the self test sequence when I switch on the ignition.

The Owners Manual seems to be a bit vague, probably because it has been written to cover all vehicle specifications. As such, it is difficult to be sure that what I am seeing during the self test sequence is normal or not.

So, to be clear, does anyone have a diagram showing the layout of the various warning lights on the instrument panel (on the rev counter and  speedometer, for example) along with an explanation of the self test sequence to expect when the ignition is switched on?

Thank you.

This is my self test lights. Also there is the twirly glow plug light between the yellow engine light and the red steering wheel, but that was only on for half a second. No DPF warning light.

Thank you Rob123.  Much appreciated.

That is the same as I see when I turn on the ignition.  So, based on our combined experience, it looks like that is what is meant to happen.

It does leave me wondering how to be sure that all the warning lights will work correctly when needed, if not all of them are included in the self test sequence.

Thanks again.

Sorry to resurrect this topic - new diesel Octavia owner here and trying to get my head round it all. As far as I can deduce from the manual, I get the impression that the DPF warning light is located on the bar below the MFD. Am I right? So, what does the Exhaust Inspection light signify? (The one to the left of the ESC light in Rob123's picture.) This one stays on after the rest have gone out but goes off when the engine is started. Does the Exhaust Inspection System control when regens are initiated perhaps?

I must check that bar the next time I start up as I've never seen the DPF light either. Looking in the wrong place wouldn't have helped!

Thats the emissions light.

Your engine has various sensors that monitor the oxygen/carbon dioxide etc. being outputted from your engine before and after the catalytic converter, and uses those figures to calculate the levels compared with the stored parameters. If they are ouside the set parameters, it then lights up. It will also light up if the engine detects anything that could alter the emissions e.g. cylinder misfire.

It is normal for it to remain lit until you start the engine.

As for the DPF symbol i'm not too sure, i'll endeavour to find out :)

You are worrying too much my friend....the car will be pretty quick to throw a warning and bong at you when something is amiss.

As long as no lights illuminate while the engine runs and you have no entries shown under vehicle status in the infotainment/maxidot you are golden.
