An interesting one!

Driving along in the rain, came to a stop, so went to flick the rear wiper and it moved very slowly for about 3 inches then stopped, thought nothing of it until I glanced down and noticed my heated rear window light had come on, on the dash. Once home I pushed the wiper back into its position and the light went out. So tried the rear wiper again and again the same thing happened. Thought nothing of it until the next day, while driving along and placing my foot on the brake, the heated rear window light illuminated and does so now each time I brake. Certainly got me muddled, is it a case of a loose earth wire, or has this happened to any other owners. Its a 1.6 estate, if that makes any difference

Leaky windscreen? I bet your fusebox is full of rain water.

Nope bone dry, though after some investigating the white relay is rather warm. Had another person press the brake pedal while I had a look at the function of the rear brake lights, a few slaps on the inner section of the roof, near where the wires run from roof to boot lid brought up some interesting results   a wriggle of the wire, stopped my brake lights from working all together, then the high level brake light worked, then stopped, the rear wiper started working, then stopped. Hmmm, more wriggling and a new relay is in order me thinks

broken wiring loom where it runs thru into the tailgate mate the wires rub thru and short against each other.

the relay will always get warm it is an inductive coil permanently switched on while the engine is running.

I had a similar issue myself.

ground wire broke 'helped' by the torn protective rubber boot.

new boot, new wire, sorted.

Brownie point all round chaps, earth wire broke. Made a temp fix but need to put in a better length of wire in a week or so time
