M5 30 Jahre Edition - 30 Year Edition

In numbers... 300 only, 30 bound for UK.

I've a soft spot for big powerful cars, just not enough of a wallet... more numbers now.

600hp and peak torque 700Nm, somehow claiming 28.5 mpg. I guess the .5 is important, give or take 28mpg.

0 to 62 in 3.9seconds. That will do nicely in a nice huggy heated seat too I suspect.

It's good to tip your hat to an engineering dominance. Forget the hoards of 320's with duff indicators, most every marque has a rise of that issue of late. This then is a great historical note.

Some info from BMW

Under the bonnet of the BMW M5 30 Jahre Edition is a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology and an output of 600hp, 40hp more than the standard model. This power boost has been achieved through carefully calculated tweaks to the engine management and an increase in charge pressure.

The foundation for these upgrades was provided by the Competition package - itself a car that already came with a power upgrade. Conceived to appreciably enrich the handling characteristics of the BMW M5, it can be ordered as an option for the regular model and is part of the special edition's standard specification. The Competition package comprises modifications including a revised chassis set-up with firmer spring/damper tuning and a 10mm drop in ride height.

Added to which, the Active M Differential on the final drive gains its own control unit to further improve traction. Elsewhere, the steering with M-specific Servotronic function has more direct mapping and the M Dynamic Mode of the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system is focused even more keenly on delivering sporty handling.

I wonder though why it needs:

A harman/kardon surround-sound system with a total of 16 speakers is also included as standard and a 1,200-watt Bang & Olufsen Advanced audio system is available as an option

You have a 4.4 V8, perhaps it's to drown out the 20" bi-colour m lightened alloy kerbing moment.

Final number it's £91,890, or more once those 30 pre-orders are in.

Whats your favourite four door; if I had a 100ishk to spare, motor?

I wonder if you could really tell the extra 40 bhp from the standard one?

My personal choice for a uber saloon/estate would currently be an RS6 in estoril blue. A bit cheaper too and still with 560 hp.

Probably if you're passing a standard one.

I have a yearning for a five !!!

They sound awesome, exhausts popping in all the right places.

I know one of the local BMW dealers sold one of their most expensive cars in the form of a full loaded M6 convertible at £96k. :o

Mine would be a fully loaded RS5 which would leave a bit to spare!

Standard ones were available on lease deals for about £500 a month recently I think. Serious car for £500 a month.

It would be handy if they were available on a month by month basis, that way when you lose your license you just hand it back!!

Probably if you're passing a standard one.

Trouble is they're so subtle that what you think might be a standard M5 you're overtaking (with your extra 40 hp), might just be 530 M sport!

On a track, side by side, the difference might be half a cars length over a quarter mile, but real world? Well a) I'm sure that amount of variance could occur within manufacturers tolerances (granted that might mean some of the Jahre's producing over 600hp) and b ) a decent driver would easily overcome that difference through putting the power down more effectively.

£100K for an M5? No,. . . . . just no.

Having just followed a standard effort down the M4 and through the brynglas tunnels. I'm now wondering how I can make 500 a month plus running costs.

Holy **** balls that thing was gone

Exclusively to the M5 30 Jahre Edition the M Performance exhaust system can be fully fitted with the Titanium tailpipe finishers for £6,645 or Carbon-fibre tailpipe finishers for £6,890.

and no, those numbers are not a misprint :o
