Ready to change brake fluid

Featured Replies

Got together the specialist tools of a plastic meat baster, small bore pipe and clean peanut butter jar to change brake fluid. Every mechanic should have them!

Personally I would buy an easi bleed, I hear that pumping the pedal to run fluid through can cause issues with the master cylinder.

EASI BLEED

Simply attach to the spare wheel for air pressure and open each bleed nipple until new fluid appears in your collecting jar, remember to top up the bottle with new fluid or you will fill the system with air!

As above easy bleed makes job simple

Yeah it ruined the seals in mine causing a leak and needing replacement

Definitely use an easy bleed.

If nothing else but for sheer ease etc.

As above, dont use the brake pedal pumping method VAG recommend pressure bleeding. I have read many tales over the years of people having brake pedal issues after using the pedal press method. The usual symptoms being the pedal goes right to the floor as the seals in the master cylinder fail.

I tend to use the Baster to remove old master cylinder fluid, then top up with fresh brake fluid prior to using my easy bleed. Saves driving stale fluid through the brake system. It is also a good idea to open the bleed screw to allow old fluid to be bled off when replacing brake pads. This will prevent "dirty" brake fluid going bake to the master cylinder when the brake pistons are pushed back into the calipers.
