Criminal gangs are stealing LED lights from luxury vehicles to use in cannabis factories, it has emerged.

Police are investigating a spate of thefts of headlights from Land Rover and Range Rover models, which are then sold to drug dealers who use them to help grow illegal plants.

Not surprised. The 'farmers' have been using higher powered lights which give off a lot of heat which can be detected from the air using thermal imaging cameras http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/local-news/heat-detection-pictures-lead-birmingham-179817 plus they'll bypass the leccy supply.

LED's = cheap to run and a lot less heat emitted so less chance of detection.

LEDs are dirt cheap to buy so why they would risk a trail from daft criminals to the growers is beyond me.  I suspect this is mostly toss.

I bet the clusters are worth more as a repair or retrofit then they are as cannabis farm fixtures & fittings.

The article I read suggested they were being shipped outside of the UK to markets where the LED headlights are not available or as popular.

 

Someone even suggested that they were being exported, listed on eBay and imported back into the UK!

Leds? I thought rangerovers used xenons with a few leds for the drls? Like most other manufacturers?

Theyd be better off nickin the lights off a leon wouldnt they?

I think the new range rovers use LEDs for headlights too. Seats new Leon has full LED headlights as an option.

If it was me buying one, i dont think id be able to stop myself selecting the 'tech pack'. I love little gadgets, and really love good headlights hahs.

Saying that, they arent so bright if theyve been nicked.
