Fabia vRS ready to rally - Ulster Rally

Featured Replies

John Mulholland has entered his Skoda Fabia vRS on this year's Ulster International Rally, a round of both the British and Irish Rally Championships. Always thought the vRS would make an interesting rally car, wonder if he will be able to left foot brake the car?

Thats ace, good luck to him

Any idea of spec/mods?

I remember a while back there was a golf diesel rally car that was pretty quick.

Yes there certainly was. It was VW supported, but developed by a satalite team and driven by a mate of mine Neil Simpson. Best result (if my memory is correct) was 3rd o/a on the Manx international. Neil was asked to slow down by the team to let his team mate by (who was driving a full house 280bhp 2L 16v). Glad he didnt :finger: And now he's a Skoda dealer........

Dont think the Fabia VRS will be competitive. As its turbo charged it will be in with all the Scubies and Mitsi's. If its modified then it will be in the same class as WRC's

It's in class A8 - the same as the WRC crews!

All class A8 crews as follows:

1. Mark Higgins / Bryan Thomas - Ford Focus WRC

2. Andrew Nesbitt / James O'Brien - Subaru Impreza WRC

3. Eugene Donnelly / Paul Kiely - Toyota Corolla WRC

4. Derek McGarrity / Dermot O'Gorman - Subaru Impreza WRC

5. Tim McNulty / Eugene O'Donnell - Subaru Impreza WRC

6. Austin MacHale / Bryan Thomas - Ford Focus WRC

7. Peadar Hurson / Damien Connolly - Subaru Impreza WRC

8. Matthew Wilson / Scott Martin - Ford Focus WRC

9. Eamon Boland / Francis Regan - Subaru Impreza WRC

12. Sean Devine - Subaru Impreza WRC

15. Maurice Gass / Andrew Cullen - Skoda Fabia WRC

23. Martin Doherty / Crawford Henderson - Subaru Impreza WRC

24. Sean McArdle / Damian Garvey - SEAT Cordoba WRC

25. Richard Gower - Hyundai Accent WRC

30. John Mulholland / Eamon Gorman - Skoda Fabia vRS

I love rallies but not too up on some things.

What actually will be under the bonnet of the vRS

Was just thinking this too as it's gonna be tough competing against 300bhp WRC cars!

Chris

cant left foot brake the vrs either, it just kills the power :(

cant left foot brake the vrs either, it just kills the power :(

Plus it lacks the 4wd of the other cars, sequential gear boxes, etc, etc! We need more info :D

Chris

Thought as much.......

Because the car runs a turbo, the MSA increase the engine capacity by 1.7% which generally buts all turbo cars into classes N4 or A8.

N4 cars are turbo cars with limited modifications such as suspension, ecu, gearbox internals, but no internal engine work. Also they must be fitted with a 32mm turbo restictor.

A8 cars are highly modified with major engine work, suspension, turbos etc, but they must run 34mm restrictors.

I guess the VRS wont perform well with the 32mm restrictor which is why they are in the A8 class...... Dont expect them to finish well unless its a similar spec as that of Neil Simpsons Golf which cost around

It's not the winning it's the taking part that counts!!

Plus what ever place he gets he has the excuse of "it's a diesel"

There are a couple RS's in the German Championship, doing quite well too.

They have a extra diesel class. There is talk, in the future of a diesel class running in the WRC.

Yes you can if you have ECU changed.

You can't left foot brake in a Fiesta ST but with Uncle Malcolms ECU you can.

The modified ECU also gets rid of all the other crap you don't need like ESP and ABS etc.

Here is a better pic.

Is that a roll-over in the making
