Source for PWY24W lamps for front indicators (filament not LED) and how to change them!

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere - I haven't found it after a reasonable amount of searching - but I am new here.

I've been trying to assemble a spare lamp kit for my Octavia estate (delivered Jan 2014 and equipped with non-HID lamps) for a forthcoming trip to France.  I've found every lamp - including the hilariously expensive H15 lamp at my local Halfrauds - but have yet to find the PWY24W used in the front indicators.

I'm not interested in fitting LED lamps as this a lease car.   Can anyone point me towards a stockist of the PWY24W?

On a slightly related note, is this really how the front indicator lamp is replaced:

Does that mean that I need not carry a spare or that it is pointless to do so????

TIA for you forbearance.

Call me cynical - but can you not get a Spare Bulb Kit from Skoda?

Yes you need to take the front bumper off to replace the indicators and you also need the repair kit to do it, not something you'd be doing at the side of the road.

It should be illegal for manufacturers to design cars in such a way all the bulbs cannot be changed at the roadside.

What a horrible step back from the MKII this is.

Nah - just call Skoda Assist.  If a bulb goes, theoretically it's illegal to continue your journey so it'll be the "man in the brightly coloured van" for me..

And you're going to trust an RAC man to carefully remove your bumper at the roadside? Also he won't be carrying the repair with him anyway....

Indeed you can - which is what the ever unhelpful Skoda 'customer service' told me to do when I asked for the lamp types.  However, my nearest dealer is nowhere near me and I already had, as it turned out, almost all of the necessary lamps in other kits.   It was only the PWY24W and H15 that I did not have.

And they will come to me in France?

Couldn't agree more.

Well it turns out that the lamp is used in a Golf and shares the same part number. So, for more than £20 I now have a spare lamp that can only be changed by a main stealer and not by the roadside.  However, I can at least say that I am complying with the requirement to carry a spare lamp kit when driving on the Continent.

Thanks to all who suggested that I visit a VW or an Audi dealer as an alternative to a Skoda dealer . . .

Yes, Skoda Assist covers you Europe wide. Just need to ensure you have the correct numbers to call, dependent upon where you are.

Interesting that the lease firm strongly suggested that I take out additional breakdown cover.

I can confirm that Skoda Assist works in Belgium..you should have a sticker with the numbers on the back - might be on the windscreen, might still be in the owners wallet.

Breakdown cover is Europe wide.

I just googled and found autobulbsdirect.co.uk  It gives this lot for the VRS, comes to £58 (there were more expensive optons, I picked up the cheapest for the basket)

That is somewhat wrong - unfortunately autobulbsdirect can't get every variation correct!

O3 vRS

HID is D3S

Indicator is the weird PW24W

Fog light is a weird H16 bulb as long as you buy it from the dealer - buy it from anywhere else and it will be totally different.

There is a 5w 501 hidden in the headlight that comes on alongside the LED light bar - no idea why it is there as it seems to serve no visual purpose!
