LED indicator bulbs

Featured Replies

A (rather weird) pet hate of mine is yellow indicator bulbs (don't ask). ;)

Has anyone replaced the bulbs in their front headlights (vRS xenons?) with a LED bulb or silver bulb?

  • I've found a german article about the front indicator bulb change. http://ledoli.de/media/products/0604253001410079080.pdf?XTCsid=2f77fc97c11d9484461eb675447818ca

Not yet I haven't as been to busy at work but looking to do this to mine as well

You mean the good old fried egg effect!

I swapped the old yellow bulbs on a previous car for silvered ones and the overall effect is nice, no more yellow blob in a sea of silver reflectors. I've also converted may mates Kia number plate downlighters to LED, they look awesome, the rear tail lights to LED, again awesome.

Yes exactly, drives me mad. They'll look better as LEDs too. :)

How complicated is to remove a bumper? Don't want to brake anything. Any difference if headlights are xenon with led? Thanks.

Has anyone tried replacing their REAR indicator bulbs with LED? I was thinking of trying to get them to match the brake/tail lights, at least in terms of the instant on-off look that LEDs have.

Primarily I am worried that a non-proven LED will trigger the system to think there's a blown bulb. I have heard that CANBUS-compatible bulbs are the ones to go for, something like this:

http://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/581-Ultimate-Canbus-92-LED-Bulb.html

I've just ordered two pairs of high power canbus error free led bulbs to complete my O3 led tailight : 16 watts Amber PY21W for indicators and 30 watts white P21W for backup. All from topled.fr (unfortunately totally French speaking site).

Will try'em next weekend and report here... cross fingers ;-)

According to someone who works in a garage, in order to replace the turn signal bulbs on the xenon headlamps a repair kit is ordered and it involves taking off the glass from the headlight and then reglueing it after bulb has been replaced.

If you are getting LED's then make sure you get the ones with LED's down the sides too.

This ensures that the reflector in the cluster is still utilised. LED's are very directional. Replacing a normal incandescent bulb with a forward-only facing LED will mean that you are actually reducing their intensity...

Lol, you know it's Xmas and not 1st of April don't you?

@Mesmer88 : I'm afraid this could be true. Had a look at my head light and didn't find any way to change these damn indicator bulbs ! I guess you have to take off all the cluster. ..

The manual doesn't explain how to replace the front indicator bulbs, and then goes on to say...

This Owner's Manual only describes the replacement of bulbs where it is possible to replace the bulbs on your own without any complications arising.

Here's how you do it ,ridiculous! Break the rear cover open then fit a repair kit after! I'm getting a price on the repair kits as I want to change mine for LED as well.

That is, as you say, ridiculous. Wouldn't hurt them to have such the "repair kit" as part of the original fitting would it? I could understand it if they put LEDs in because they are likely to last the lifetime of the car. All in the name of penny-saving I guess. Do let us know what you find out about the kit.

Also... there's the big question left hanging about how to remove the headlamp. Potentially not a simple affair in itself?

Bumper off job.

Thank you xpower!!

This is utterly insane. Really?! If your car blows an indicator bulb you have to remove the front bumper and then the headlight unit? What insane fool signed that off for production?!

Good Lord!! I thought it was only the French that made such inept decisions.
