LOL! No ill give u that. Its a vrs 1.8t 20v. I thought only the vrs came in yellow so didn't bother writing it down.

possibly in line with the dipstick??

Not sure looked a little further back than the ddipstick. Come to think about it I did see abit of oil on the front of my sump the other day...

Most likely a cracked dipstick tube or part of crankcase ventilation sytem.

Can't really see where exactly it relates to in the engine bay but I'm guessing it is over the top of the aux belt area which would fling oil up there if there was a leak onto it.

Is the oil filler cap on tight?

Its the dipstick. Its snapped in half lol! Where is best to get a new one?

gsf carparts  euros very cheap

It is the lower section that probably snapped which is common as they get brittle with the engine heat over time. Dealership is best place.VW, seat, Audi and Skoda 1.8 t engines all use the same. TPS car parts or even EBay have them.

Don't think can get that part there?

Yes its the lower section of it. If it wasnt connected to a hose it would of fell off when I pulled the dipstick out. Theres loads of oil over my sump dripped on my garage floor lol. Glad iv not changed the oil yet.

Ok so put it on yesterday and had a cleanup to find more oil on my sump today. Iv cleaned it again and cant see where its coming from. Could it be the oil still coming down from what spilt out. Its very light/golden. Seems to be in between the sump and gearbox area but running off the sump.

bowders i work for gsf i get cost price on most vrs parts hint hint if ya need anything ask me lol

It could be the rear main oil seal is leaking. Have you had the clutch replaced or had the sump off?

The clutch was replaced over 60k ago and im planing on removing the sump at some point to change the pickup

Strange as it sounds, oil can flow upward as well as down. Usually, if the oil is leaking from between the gearbox and engine...

if it is gearbox oil the oil is leaking from the gearbox :)

there is a leak in the sealant between the sump and block.

Well its not gearbox oil cuz I know how that smells. Is the rear main seal visible without removal of anything?

Iv had a leaking gearbox. I seem to have put too much fluid in and its blown by the driveshaft seals I replaced. Looks like I will be doing them again. DOH!

I also have abit of dark oil still coming down the front central area of my sump. I cant see where its coming from. Still unsure if its just oil from when my dipstick guide snapped.

Did you press down very hard on new dip stock , they need to clip in to the metal pipe to block. They are dam tight. You think they will break but they are ok. double check that before worrying about seal and stuff.

  • 3 weeks later...

Ok so im still getting a bit of oil appearing on my sump. Anyone got any ideas? Dipstick guide has been removed and refit. It was fit right the 1st time. Could it be linked to this at all?http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/316998-whats-this-part-called/#entry3795402

Oil leaking in that area does tend to look like driveshaft seal as it runs down to there. When I did the SAI delete it was a right mess in the side of the head. After delete and cleaning been dry since so might be something around that area.

I do actually have leaking driveshaft seals. I replaced them the other month but made a school boy error by putting 2 much gearbox oil in and now its blown the sills. This oil is coming down the centre of my sump from the front. I cant seem to see anything tho. The rocker cover looks fine. Could it be the gasket on my intake manifold or does no oil go through that at all?
