I have measured the temps in the standard Air Box, the Inlet, and a variety of inlets.

The position of post #19 is as poor as it gets,  Cold Air Feed required and some shielding.

Have a fast run, stop in the heat, bonnet stays closed, a nice sunny day,

restart the car and it takes some nice hot air in for a bit, it has the sensors having a hairy for a short while

This is a very low tech tuning aid, but handy to measure under bonnet temps.

£3.15 expenditure or so.

george, where did you pick that up at? i've been after one for a while but dont have a clue what theyre called, theyre like green house thermometers arent they?

I'll gladly buy one, stick it in the bung on the end of the filter and test it if you can give me a link??

btw, this has cost me

£20 for the filter. used. which i cleaned with stuff i have lying around

£1.30 for a nylon barbed connector

£2.50 for jubilee clips

£16.50 silicone hose, i bought a meter, they cocked up so sent me another meter... so that could potentially be free if i sell it as i've managed to use what they sent me...

i will have no issues selling any of this if it doesnt work

Cheap, especially if it works...

dont knock it before ive tried it, this is whats a bit bad about the skoda community vs seat and vw, nobody does anything and its quite set in stone what to do...

worth studing what the systems are,

this is the engine to 125 kw,  Max power @ 6000 rpm ,  Before the CAVE and 132-136 kw  & 6,200 rpm

http://volkspage.net/technik/ssp/ssp/SSP_359.pdf

It is not the strongest of engines internally.

Heat and losing heat is a major factor, and a good plan.

Cool air is wunderbah.

So Air intake important,

But Mapping & Fueling is a BIGGIE and the Plugs and Inlet Manifold.

It was revised in 2012 to the CTHE with different parts and engine management for a reason.

If you have a good CAVE, then fine,

but 215 BHP might be enough. IMO

'Digital Fridge Thermometer',

Amazon about £3,   or you can buy better ones.

A few of those are handy.

I bumped the '1/4 thread' incase you have not read some of the mods others have run.

these engines werent the best of engines were they haha.

my engine build date is 03/2010 it seems, from the first impressions to be a very strong engine, i have seriously kicked the tits off it on a daily basis and its not used a drop at all..

i would be very happy with 215 in all honesty, im just going to see what happens im not one to go chasing numbers, its more how something drives that makes the car what it is.

we will see what happens when i install it at the weekend, it may be terrible but it may also perform similar to the ITG kit, till somebody actually attempts this (with a themometer) we wont know, but for the sake of £30 i've taken the plunge :)

I think this is fair comment, that's personally why I am enjoying this thread quite a lot.  I would be surprised if you are likely to do any damage playing with intakes for now, and it will either work or it wont, that simple :)

Just orderd a Vibratechnics Lower Engine Mount/Torque Link  - mostly because it was recommended to me by Alex @ AKS who worked on developing these for the 1.4tsi and because I am not aware of anyone else running this currently on here, so it will be something new to talk about.

i read that prior to getting my car, everybody again is doing the same, set in stone modifications.

that thread is what swayed me to get the Fabia, just how fast they really are out of the box!

Going to use up my likes on this thread.

Sparkly is running an engine as yours was, and its all good as he has it now.

many of the other project cars in this forum with remaps and no longer on the Original engine.

There are some other members with some that give impressive figures.

Its easy to have BHP, its good to know that the engine lasts when used other extended periods,

flat out, or the likes of Track Days.

Its then an idea how one just used on the road can be.

Sparkly is the one that knows currently how that is going.

PS

Does a 'New'  Site Sponsor not get Extra Likes, like?

I am off for a Spin listening to Ronan Keating on the 8 track,

to see if i can get some 'Heat soak' action.

could you please send me a link to the mount please?

i had one fitted to my focus st, the difference it made was unbelievable, it reduced wheel hop/bang more than i could ever imagine.

coming from that to the fabia, the fabia pulls away like a hot knife through warm butter, but i reckon it could be improved on, just like anything! :)

exactly, thanks for backing up my statement, the reason im doing this is because i dont believe that the intake kits which are for sale at the moment are not worth the money they charge, especially for the build quality!, come on plastic, neoprene and a silicone hose for £200+? (forge kit) get a grip, i also agree, i will not cause any damage to the engine through a simple intake unless the thermometer falls to bits and gets sucked into the engine haha.

i'll give this a go, if it works great, if not i will try do something with the original air box, maybe something like what vauxhall done to the 2007 vectra vxr.

NOTE: Cant wait to get this fitted along with deres + maybe sports cat at the weekend..... this car is going to sound badass....

It's the VAG220m one and I am hoping it will help with traction from a standing start and add to the throttle response.

But in this instance i bought from here:

http://www.akstuning.co.uk/

Alex was no cheaper this time than Awesome but his advice and patience are inavaluable and I would always try to give him business.

The ITG is a metal housing not plastic btw

It used to be a glorious carbon fibre housing, but proved too expensive to make.

There is one of these original beauties up for sale on SCN at the moment.

I have had a look at his website and couldnt find it, found these though, im not into engine dressups but i really like these! http://www.akstuning.co.uk/#/shop/4572359405/Washer-Coolant-Cap/4516651

that looks like the sort of thing the focus had, apart from mine was more bulky, what does it do on the fabia? connect to the gearbox then to the body?

i was referring to the forge kit which is plastic btw :)  wouldnt the metal kit just warm up in the engine bay?

yeah ive seen pictures of the carbon one, now that is a kit i wouldnt think twice about buying! it looked amazing quality...

whats SCN? unfortunately im utterly broke for the next month so wont be buying it :( missing out big time.

Sent you a PM, AKS has very little on their website.  I just call him.

could you PM me the forge look alike? very interested.

i have been looking at the small universal intercoolers for £54, you'll know the ones im on about, if the 200sx guys can use them on motors with 300-380hp im sure if we can make them fit they will work just as well...

Think we may be on about the same ones. Its around the same size as the forge one for ours. Inlet and outlet are in same place too. At work at the mo. May be able to get a link up later.

i think we may be is it along the lines of this one?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALUMINIUM-ALLOY-FRONT-MOUNT-INTERCOOLER-K-450x175x65MM-/310321325903?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item484097a74f

I think in the next few weeks, for the sake of £50 and a couple of silicone joiners (£15-£20) i may experiment

APR:

  • APR intercooler core dimensions: 21.00” x 4.50” x 6.40” (53cm - 11cm - 16.25cm)
  • OEM intercooler core dimensions 24.25” x 3.13” x 3.81” (61.5cm - 7.8cm - 9.6cm )

Universal Ebay

550mm x 140mm x 65mm,

So same length and roughly same height as the APR but it looks to be about 10cm less depth, fitting is another matter

Awesome GTI list a universal intercooler but it's fitting requires cutting into trim and the crash bar, I would look for an IC with same core dimensions as this.

Yeah they were the ones I looked at. Possibly try and find one with same dimensions.

whats freedom?

Briskoda Membership of £12, that lets you sell things.

Re the DIY Intake under the Bonnet.

If you measured the Under bonnet temperature near the Battery after a run,

or during a run with a 23 *oC Ambient Temperature,

Engine Oil indicated temp 110*0C or so.

Sun Splitting the pavement, and on your bonnet, and you stop,

I doubt the Temperature is 22.5 *oC at the filter.

Its near 40*oC when i check it.
