Rear View Mirror

Featured Replies

Hello,

When I am sat comfortably in the Yeti, the rear view mirror is it at eye level. This make looking out of the middle of the windscreen difficult as I have to move my head to the right to peer around the mirror to see some objects or when at a T junction looking for traffic coming from the left.

The mirror is mounted just under the black spotty sun shade that is on the top of the windscreen.

Is it possible to mount the mirror higher so that it is mounted in the spotty area near the roof line. Doing this will give me a better view out of the windscreen.

Could it be done?

Thank you

Unlikely. The mirror is fitted to a boss that is fitted when the screen is manufactured and I doubt you will get that off without breaking the screen.

In the 4 years I've had the Yeti I've never noticed the mirror getting in the way.

How tall are you?

You must sit tall in the saddle!

I have the same problem in my Roomster, so I have to set the driver's seat lower than I would really like.

Graham is right - the boss is bonded to the screen during manufacture.

Yes, I have a longer than average back with spinal damage, so need to sit up higher on the seat. The lower I sit things get into real pain. I can not sit in a corsa for example as its seat are to low.

Thanks for the replies, I will accept and adapt my driving style a bit.

Funnily enough smart car owners sometimes complain of the same issue and some clever chap took the mirror apart and found a mounting stem from another car that fitted but was shorter so held the mirror higher up.

So it would take the same pioneering spirit to try to do the same with the yet mirror - plus extended trips around local scrap yards, but it may be solvable.

I guess I'd be inclined to buy a new windscreen and apply the mirror higher with a cutout for the 'mesh'.

But the bracket the mirror attaches to will already be stuck to the new screen.

Oh! Ok.

That's news to me.

I vaguely remember two threads on this subject but I'm blowed if I can find them.

In one thread, an owner had a replacement windscreen fitted and was surprised to find the windscreen supplied with the boss already attached.

In another thread, a Yeti owner noticed a difference in mirror position between models.  From memory, models with rain-sensing windscreens (or was it heated windscreens?) had the mirror fitted in a higher position.  As said, my memory of this is vague and I would be happy to stand corrected.

The mirror height was discussed at length 2 to 3 years ago.

The  mirror fitted to the Elegance is fitted in a higher position on the rain-sensing  windscreen.

^ That's how I remember it, too.

I guess they're pretty exy then?

Thanks for the replies.

I did a 80 mile round trip today and I lowered the seat by 2 inches so that my eye level is now at the bottom of the mirror. It shows a lot more windscreen view but my back was just OK. Will have to experiment a bit more.

Having had the same thing for the last 4 years, my suggestion is save your money. You'll soon get used to moving your head to see round it.

BTW, it's only models with auto wipers that have the high mirror because it is mounted on the same Lug as the sensor.

I suppose if you really can't get used to it, perhaps changing the screen to one for auto wipers will solve the issue but likely you'll end up looking at ugly bracket unless you fix the cover too.

I don't see that moving one's head slightly is a big problem: the sight lines in any car are never going to be perfect for drivers of different heights, flexibility, etc. I find it difficult to see traffic coming from the right when joining a road at an angle of less than about 40 degrees, but am aware of this and realise that I need to take my time when carrying out this manoeuvre.

Yes it is only the very first point made in this thread from April 2010 about things to think about before you order a new Yeti................
