Rain Sensor

Featured Replies

Big chip in the windscreen last night. Direct line referred me to Autoglass. They asked whether I had rain sensor I said no but that there was a black box behind the mirror where it is joined to the screen (I do have the "coming home" lighting function). The operator said that this box contained the rain sensor.

My question is, can the rain sensor be turned on with VCDS or is something else required?

Accordng to my 2012 Yeti brochure the Elegance has the rain sensor "over and above " the SE spec ,which you appear to have.

My Elegance (2013 model) has both light and rain sensors. Both on as standard.

I know the Elegance is a different spec from my SE and has different items as standard.

My question is can the rain sensor be activated by VCDS as it appears to have the rain sensor hardware fitted but it is not operational.

I have attached a photo.

I recently activated it on a Superb that that the sensor but didn't some activated.

Are you sure it doesn't already work automatically? Try putting the wiper stalk into the first position and if they work continually on intermittent and the little dial controls the time then it is not activated.

I put the wipers on intermittent and wetted the screen where the sensor is and nothing changed.

The little lever on the top of the stalk controls the interval.

I think it may be possible to activate it. Like I say it worked straight away on a Superb that had auto lights but not the wipers but had the sensor. We ticked the box for auto wipers and it worked straight away.

Can you post a photo taken from outside the windscreen looking at the area of the box ?

Should be obvious from that if it has a rain sensor or not.

Sounds like you just need someone with VCDS and see what happens!  Good luck.

If you have the big box attached to the screen then you need the same windscreen that uses the rain sensor. Otherwise all you'll get is the small square adhesive pad that the mirror attached directly to.

I have a feeling that the new screen also comes with the sensor attached as it bonded to the screen with a special pad.

Here's a picture of the screen before fitting, the black is just the frame to hold the sensor fitting:

Thanks for everyone's help.
