Unless they just chucked a load of orders into the system months ago and assumed they'd find buyers before they get built.

Maybe - but if that is the case you can get top whack for the cars if you have them as stock, or as good as.

Carfile.net are still quoting 14% discount across the range including options but you can assume this will exclude the 0% on non-vRS models, although I managed to get the £500 deposit and free servicing on top of the carfile.net discount when I ordered but that was well before the 0% deals were offered. When I was in for the 20k service last week, the finance manager said he was expecting the 0% to come back on the vRS in the not too distant future cos the waiting lists are coming down as the tidal wave of orders seems to have reduced since they stopped the 0% and free servicing and also whacked up the prices.

Very interesting prices.  For my spec they are extremely competitive.  My (potential) VRS TDI Combi with extras comes out at £27,185 list.  My best prices have been:

UK Car Discount £23,589 (13.23% discount)

Carfile.net           £23,836 (12.32%)

Drive the Deal    £24,029  (11.60%)

CarWow             £24,160  (10.87%)

and then..

buyanewcaronline £22,538 (17.09%)

Which made me a bit cautious (too good to.. etc.).  I read reviews and testimonials and I've seen the site quoted on Honest John & Parkers for certain deals.  Reading the buying process, it mentions that you can pay the deposit (£1,000) by credit card (no fee) so you'd be covered for the whole purchase if there was a problem (although I'm sure that it would be a whole lot of hassle claiming £22.5k from my cc provider if there was a problem).  Also, the site looks professional with nice clear information.  And they seem to have been around for some time.

Has anyone bought through them or even considered and dismissed them for certain reasons?

Many thanks

Do not be misled by a professional looking site. I am not saying avoid buyanewcaronline because of this but do not be misled by any company with a glossy website they are cheap and easy to set up many of the major scams have caught peolple out this way.

If they have an Honest John reccomendation then that would count for something.

Remember you can check details online via companies house, how long trading, how solvent, who the directors are etc etc.

If you are buying through a broker then you are not buying added value so makes sense to go for the cheapest if you feel confident they can deliver.

id love to hear from someone that's actually made a purchase through buyanewcaronline as that discount means there no margin in the car to be made - highly suspicious IMO.

Maybe the margins or bonuses for no's registered are more than you think. Are you sure the margin is what you think it is?

That is why the major hire companies are sometimes given fleets for next to nothing to get cars registered and onto the used market at 6m old.

There will be a lot of facts and figures we do not know about.

I tried a site like this a few years ago and the final quote / bid was from a Sheffield dealer that was a lot higher than the one on the website.

The dealer in Sheff was not interested in my business this time, only offered me £1500 discount, so off I went, to Lincoln and doubled my discount! SWMBOs car however was from Sheff and we got a decent deal on the back of a fleet order for my Superb, so I guess it just depends on the time of the month! You really do not need to buy through a broker, just ring round a few dealers and one of them will always price match the mainstream brokers in my experience.

I've had two quotes from Sheffield easily beaten...

The bigger dealerships offer the biggest deals in my experience.

Agree if a deal looks too good it probably is.

When I priced up my car on UK Car Discount with all the extras it came to £22.5k, much less than the OTR price......so I went down to my dealers for the test drive and asked what price they could do it for. I quoted the price i'd found on the web, the sales exec went away to speak to the manager and came back 2 minutes later with a price of £22.4k!!  So I ordered from the dealer!

Also, the key to buying is make sure you use a credit card for at least the order/holding deposit. Any items over £100 that are paid for by a credit card, even if the card is just used for a small portion like £20, is covered by Section 75, which protects you for the full price of the item. However, the item has to cost no more than £30,000. There are some new rules that may provide coverage for more expensive purchases. You can read the details here:

http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/shopping/section75-protect-your-purchases

This is one of the reasons I try to remember to use a credit card when buying anything major and then just put the money back on the card. At least you're covered if the seller goes out of business or fails to comply with the terms of the agreement.

I too was recently shopping around for a MK3 vRS and got a number of quotations around the £21k mark for The TDI with race blue metallic, Canton Sound, the black design pack and the rear tints.

One company quotes me 12-14 weeks so I emailed them asking for written confirmation from Skoda that they could deliver in that time since I'm hearing 6-9 months from most dealers. They came back and confirmed delivery is more in the 6 month region so I'd suggest if anyone gets better delivery timescales than that to ask for some sort of written confirmation from Skoda.

Re section 75 I think you have to spend at least £100 on your card to be covered

  • 3 weeks later...

With Section 75, the item needs to cost between £100 and £30,000 but it doesn't matter how much you use your credit card for. Even if you only paid part with your card, you're covered for the whole lot.
