Failed MOT, need new brakes and toe rods. Need to find correct parts.

Featured Replies

Hi

I just got back from a MOT and i failed nicely.

Car is: Fabia Greenline 1.4TDI 2008, BMS engine, 59kw.

Brake disks in front and pads on the rear need change, also the tie rods and steering rods.

Are tie rods and steering rods the same? This can be a lost in translation sort of thing.

I been looking at Brembo Max 256mm disks for the front and 230mm for the rear, i believe thats the size the 1.4 greenline has stock. Anyone know some more about using non OEM brakedisk's?

Brembo list for my car, i believe:P

And are these the tie rods im looking for?

Also, are there tie rods that are uprated, like from a Vrs or a Cupra R that i can use instead?

LEFT    and   RIGHT

And last, whats good brake pads for daily driving and do i need pads with a sensor?

Best regards

Truls

Um, where i live a MOT costs just as much as a new set of brake disk's :S

And i have no other alternatives, they are all delaerships here.

In the UK, there is no longer any requirement to fail on brake pad/disk thickness or indeed condition of the disk. All they need to do is pass the brake efficiency and balance test. Guess they are more old school in Norway.....

Your car is a lowly 1.4tdi, I would stick to OEM brake parts.

Tie rods are the same as steering rods - I think you may mean "tie rods" and "tie rod ends". There is a ball joint at the wheel (the tie rod end) and another at the steering rack end (part of the tie rod and hidden in the steering rack bellows).

For all to fail the MOT test at 2008 - unless you've done 200,000 km + - I would say the test center is pulling your leg.....

Lemforder are an OEM supplier to VAG - if you want uprated then choose the MEYLE HD range of parts if they are available for your model - they come with 4 year warranty and are the choice of taxi's etc because they last forever.

I was thinking of the Tie rods and tie rod ends, or thats what they ment atleast. Thanks for clairing that up=)

The car has done 120,000km + some nasty driving the last 50,000km, i can see that the front disk's are worn, but i cant say if its to much. The back pads look fine on the outside. changed pads on 90.000 last time, maybe its time to change them anyway?

That's interesting to know - cheers xman.
