Fsi 1.6 abs and anti skid light on

Featured Replies

Help I have an annoying problem with the abs light so here goes.

Start the car and the abs light stays on. Pull away and it goes out, hit 15 to 20 miles per hour and both the abs and skid lights come on and stay on. Now I have been told that it may be one of the sensors but at fifty pounds a go, are they universal so I get one to try on all wheels or are they wheel specific and if not the sensors what else might it be??????

You need to know which one.

Morning Painter62,

I had the exact same issue with my Octavia a few months ago too, Luckily I have a friend who has a vehicle workshop unit, literally down the road from where I live.

He ran the car through a Diagnostics Program he has on his laptop and it showed exactly what the fault was, for me it was the rear left wheel bearing on which there is a magnetic strip that the ABS sensor which is fixed in one place reads, from what I understand there is meant to be a gap between the sensor and the magnetic strip.

My mate put the car up on the ramp and after having a closer look, showed me that the sensor was digging into with the magnetic strip on the Wheel bearing causing the ABS and Traction Control Warning Lights to come on.

He ordered me a new Wheel bearing think it was £50-£60ish and fitted it virtually free of charge (mates rates).

I've Not had a problem with the warning lights coming on since getting the Rear Wheel Bearing changed.

But like Aspman said you need to know which Wheel the fault is with.

Hope this helps.

Hi

I've exactly the same problem as painter62. My skoda was idle for two months whilst i was away (it wasn't driven) and this problem cropped up when I first drove it. Mechanics reset the software and it didn't work so they said the back left sensor needs to be replaced. They said it was a common problem with sensors not receiving electrical power for some time caused by reduced power in battery due to car standing idle. Now the sensor has been replaced and the problem remains. Now mechanics are talking about replacing computers and high costs. They have to 'do some homework on the error code'. Concerned this is going to slip into a trial and error expensive exercise. I'll be mentioning Newbie's solution above to the mechanics but any more thoughts on this issue i'd appreciate.

it will be sensor, wiring or wheel hub. Never heard of the computer needing replacing.
