HELP! Multiple warning lights and beep!

Featured Replies

The power steering light is flashing the asr light the abs light and handbrake warning light and passenger air bag..been happening every now and again so I turned off the engine and restarted and it went away but now I've had to drive home with it on and beeping constantly! Any ideas from you lovely briskodians as I've disconnected the battery at the minute..it's not a thermal problem is it, the temp sensor still needs replacing but all day today it has sat at 12 o'clock which it doesn't normally (sits at 10). I can't drive it at the minute

Water leak causing an electrical fault

I'd start by checking the auxilliary drive belt tension, and the alternator clutch. This all sounds like it could be caused by low volts.

Whats it leaked into to cause that, the ecu??

Hi ken how do you go on about checking those?

Where would it have gotten into to cause this, the ecu??

The alternator drive belt has an automatic tensioner and the alternator drive pulley has no clutch since this a petrol car, so you needn't worry about any of that.

However it does have a load sensor wire, you need to measure the voltage from the battery terminals with the engine off and then with it running, at least 12.6V and 14.2V respectively.

Check the condition of the Battery too. I had this problem and the battery was and I quote 'The most dead battery I have ever seen' (my local motor factor who tested it)

  • Author

Checked the battery voltages, 12.36V whilst engine off and 14V when running - so that means the battery is ok right?

Does this point towards the load wire?

Battery seems a little low, try giving it an overnight charge, alternator also a bit low, can you check fault codes?

Will try checking the fault codes tomorrow, will charge battery tonight - its an old charger though how long do you reckon it should be left on for - i am unsure on whether its got an auto switchoff

Doesn't matter, the charger will only supply what current the battery wants, if it's a 4Ah charger it will take 11 hours to fully charge a flat 44Ah battery, maths ain't rocket science Aaron.

Ahhhhh so that's how it works........ :notme:

hi all, put the battery on charge and reinstalled it but thats made no difference.

The power steering, ABS,ASR lights are now intermittently flashing.

I used VCDS-lite on it to see what codes it flagged up and ive got the following

Is this related to the PS pump by any chance? Is the control module built into the pump? Im hoping its just water ingress and the sun today will clear everything out but at the minute its undrivable mainly because of the handbrake warning chirp thats non stop!!

Dash cluster fault I'd say.

Communication faults are because gateway is in the dash.

  • Author

Well that seems a lot cheaper to fix, is there a way to test this?

Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk

New dash cluster. About £350 installed by a dealer.

You can borrow another cluster to test. It won't start but the codes will clear.

  • Author

RIght, OK - I will have to try and get hold of another cluster, any cluster should work fine right so long as its a petrol version?

Do you have to get a new cluster or can refurb'ed units be installed? I would then need someone to code it for me - is this a main dealer only job or can it be taken to an auto electrician or similar?

Thats assuming it is a cluster, and thats just an assumption given the details provided and past experience. It still needs to be backed up with some diagnosis.

Even if you did swap the Dash cluster, surely you would need to Immobiliser Code to be changed (programmed into the dash cluster).

  • Author

From what ive read, if you get a new module it doesnt need to be coded (as theres no previous settings to overwrite, it just pulls the ECU data. Its only with a used unit you need to recode)

Checked the current dash cluster at the minute and the wiring looks pretty good, no apparant defects or wire splits running into both connectors :/

A new module will have to be coded. It has no security data, won't be paired to the keys or have and mileage stored in it.

Not too much of an issue then for anyone with VCDS, I've checked the connectors ill have to have a look at the PCB tonight and check for dry solder joints

If nothing comes of that i think its off to an auto electrician :/ I stopped one warning light flashing though! (Turned off the ASR haha)

Typical this is, just as ive brought a new set of door cards to spruce up the interior..the car throws a fit in defiance (I WILL REMOVE THAT TAN INTERIOR!) :P

You can only do it with VCDS if you have both the original SKC code and the new cluster SKC code or it has to be done online with Skoda.

  • Author

Where is the SKC code held? On the model sticker of the instrument unit?
