Modified car insurance

Featured Replies

Guys,

I am in the process of renewing my insurance and I am thinking of getting the car remapped and also replacing the RARB.

Could anyone let me know the sort of premium I might expect to pay for a modified car.

Currently for an unmodified car I am looking at quotes of around £320.

I have max no claims, and no points, am over 60 and live in a relatively low risk postcode.

Thanks for any help.

Your insurance quotes seem high.  I am similar age and pay less than half your quotes (with £100 excess, protected no claims bonus and wife also on policy).  My vRS is a diesel though.

Have you tried the online broker sites?

moneysupermarket and gocompare both allow you to select from a list of modications and the premium is reflected accordingly.

All from the comfort of your own home. You don't even need to speak to anyone!

I'm 27 and pay ~£600 for my K04 vRS with all supporting mods

Try admiral and esure. They were the cheapest on line when I looked in January. LV are also competative for modded cars. It normally doesn't pay to stick with 1 insurer as tney tend to give new customers a better deal.

I'm 50 something and am paying over 100 less than you so I suspect you're not being given the best deal by your current insurer. You could see if they will price match and stay with the insurer you've got if you don't want to swap. Good luck.

Also try chris knott insurance and mention briskods for club discount as they are very modification friendly brokers.

Greenlight are good for modified motors. Don't charge admin for changes either!

Are you willing to reveal which insurer ? I'm dreading my quote once I'm k04 but £600 seriously ? That's not a bad at all !

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I think the postcode makes a difference so the guys in Worcestershire and Gloucestershire will get a better price - Oh for a £200 quote :sun:

The best price so far is £291 unmodded and £350 modded from Adrian Flux.

Cheers

Adrian Flux

Will give them a try come September, should have the k04 strapped on by then ! Can't wait !

I pay £190 fully comp with Churchill unmodded and that is with ncp and only 5 years no claims bonus plus an accident against me due to the wife having an accident in our other car a few years ago.

I have looked at a shark stage one remap and changing my suspension and the best quote I have found so far is £320 with Liverpool Victoria.

Hi,

Hopefully our quotation will be competitive but if you did get anything slightky lower please feel free to drop me a line. We'd do our best to help.

Regards,

Dan.

Cant say about modded but 320 seems expensive, wife 46 me 42 full no claims and renewal last year was £168 with e-sure. Was also thinking about remap but I know e-sure wont touch it after.

How do people get a good price out of Adrian Flux!?!? They quoted me over £900!!! I try them every yar, always the,same...double anyone else!

Brentacre were £450, and gocompare threw up a cheeky £390...29 with 4yrs protected ncd, 1 fault claim this year and a PD105 Elegance Estate!

Yeah I was surprised at the Adrian Flux quotes other people have mentioned, I remember trying them a couple of years ago and their quote was through the roof compared to everybody else. Maybe they should change their policy in giving sky high quotes before ringing back to try and price match, as the quote I had put me off, I never rang them again TBH ! Will try come September maybe they have changed their ridiculous pricing :)

Multiquote from Admiral starting in June:

Skoda Octavia Sport 2.0 TDi 140.

Seat Altea XL SE 2.0 TDi 170.

Both been driving 17yrs.

Both got 8yrs Protected NCD.

Both cars £0 Voluntary £100 Compulsory Excesses.

£485.55

Dallen, I've tried them for years...I doubt they'll change soon! When I buy anything, I expect a little haggling, but really??

If Dan@adrianflux fancies having a look, my quote will be under Nr14 7LU - DV56 EKD.

Cheapest for me for the past 4 years have been Brentacre (Insurance is with Highway/LV) £350 for current year on a Mk3 Golf 16v and changing to an Octavia Elegance PD mid term, Admiral/Elephant (£425 previous on the Golf and a Megane 1.6), £400 year before) and eCar (£295 on a Swift 1.0 changing to a Mk4 Golf 1.6)

Had a fault claim in Feb and cheapest renewal now is with a company I'd not head of for £356.

I'm 29 with 4yrs protected Ncd and driving for 8 or 9 years (First few were in company cars) no other claims/ convictions in 5 years and drive company cars too.

Admiral Multicar £459

Octavia Scout xs £100

SLK350 xs £250

Auris HSD xs £100

Just to update you all,

Chris Knott got the business at £260 for the year and £40 extra when the car has been modified - a great deal :sun:

Is that £40 per mod ?

The price was for RARB and remap, although I expect that it will be added when the first mod goes in which will be the RARB. I expect this will be sometime later this year.

That's interesting to know. I'm doing the same at the moment, with renewal (Admiral) coming in at just under £330. I assume it's the LS postcode that does it. Admiral told me they don't cover remaps, just tuning boxes up to 25% increase, even though i know there are others on the forum with them and have a remap declared! I got a similar quote to you from CKI unmodded, but 50% over that for just a remap. Greenlight say it isn't enough of a modification to quote for, and Sky didn't think they could get much better than £400 modded. I've yet to try Adrian Flux, but I had been hoping for somewhere closer to £300 with the remap.

To be fair, they all say they can do better for firm business, but it's hard to find out what the going rate is with so much leeway in final negotiations.

It's worth giving Chris Knott a try as well as Adrian Flux.

I am with L&V. I changed my insurance to reflect remap, RARB, upgraded suspension and upgraded brakes. Think they charged me at most 20% extra.

As many have already stated, the absolute level of premium is far more dictated by the area one lives in than by anything else.
