Pick Up Immobiliser Urgent Help

Featured Replies

1.9 Diesel Pick up     P Reg

Must have damaged ignition switch when   stupidly swinging hubs/tightening track rods etc  and leaving key in,   while doing recent clutch change

After  that all worked OK - but switch was faulty in so much as no " clicks"   ie positive location to positions, could still use, but had to return key to correct position  manually etc

Had spare switch off another car, today decided to change.   Drilled out bolts etc , decided to make sure all worked before re-fitting all. Connected up -  engine turned OK but would not start - and soon flattened battery

Realised that the black plastic ring around old switch had a sensor on it -  immobiliser ( never knew I had one)

Does not work with my new switch - obviously programmed to key.  Even worse the original key  is now stuck in old ignition switch which has given up ghost completely, so cannot even get back to square one!

Could not even lock doors.  Have found spare key that enables me to at least lock pick up

Puzzle - battery seemed to go flat after  very  short  while - good be co-incidence?  but always good before

Is immobiliser   somehow linked to starter motor as well as fuel pump?

How does immoboliser pick up the signal - just from key fob?

Could I use old fob just to activate it?  That is use my new switch and key, but just use old key to prevent the cut out

Better still ,  how can I do away with immobilisor all together?

Help appreciated, as   this is working, pick up used every day, and now off road

on the diesels the immobilisation is done by switching off the fuel stop solenoid on the injection pump, the immo box behind the instrument cluster picks up the signal from the key which is a radio frequency signal using the black plastic ring on the starter switch, the key has a passive chip in which looks like a glass glass bead, if the key is near to the plastic ring it should work

Thanks a lot for info

Will try first thing in morning  using the original key top plastic bit ( will have to saw off old lock)  or possibly the spare key may work)

I  have trawled through  the forums and see that others have had similar problems

I understand fully  that it is not advisable to put out on web site/forums how to by-pass immobiliser,  but it seems quite a few have info how to do it

If anyone can provide method, please can I get in touch somehow  to get details for a genuine problem

I use pick up to transport trials bikes, and was hoping to ride this weekend , but at present it looks like no - go if Teflon Toms help does not work for some reason

Worked as Teflon suggested  ie   place original key fob against sensor on black plastic ring -  Thanks  at least got it running.

Pick Up starts and runs and key can be moved away until next time

BUT a bit temperamental  and fiddly

Tried it with spare key that I had for original and it works sometimes - but worse of all once it does not work for any reason with either key - it reverts back to immobilisation?   Must be memory somewhere?

Then I dis-connect battery for a bit - and on re-connect and holding original key against sensor once more it will start from the newly fitted ( s/hand)  switch. as long as I hold original key carefully against sensor.

Had hoped I could re-fit all and just use original key pressed against outside plastic when I wished to start - sometimes that works - not others, depends on signal strength or something?

Question -    As I   now have original key which works the immoboliser - but not switch - can I   take the new key that works switch along with old key and get one cut that does both !!!!

Complicated I know - would still prefer to dissable the whole thing as

Yes, you can get them reprogrammed too, timpsons can do them, get them to put the code from the old original key onto the new one... All the keys on this type of immo1 system have the same code so you can also get them to clone a key as well once you have a working one.

Thanks Teflon

Am off to Timpsons in next town - in wifes car!!!

Out of interest  a mobile Auto lock specialised can by pass the immoboliser - but £125 - £150  !!!!!

It just gets worse

Drove  to nearest Timpsons ( 15mile away)  - helpful guy,  could have cut a new key and transferred code form original key to it for £40

BUT -  he puzzled at the key blade on the key I now have to turn replacement lock ( taken off Felly diesel car)

He eventually found it in a book - shown as a Shown  key -  but with a different shaped plastic - ie not the normal; symmetrical plastic shape but a more one sided smaller one

These cannot accommodate the chip

So,  it looks like I am looking for another felicia  ignition switch /barrel with a normal shaped key - that I can get a new key cut from and get transponder code added!

Just to make things worse - lashing down with rain here and on way back wipers on  wifes Renault just packed in - so we are a family of pedestrians

I have taken out dash on Skoda etc and can see the immoboliser - but reluctant to start cutting/joining wires to see if I can bypass it.

If anyone has info - please give me a ring on 01639 882241 or email [email protected] - desperate now

Can you put up a picture of the key for me? Don't go paying out anything else yet till we've solved this, as far as I know there has only ever been 2 types of key blade used on the felicia models.

Thanks

Will take picture in morning and try to put on ( not that good on computer type things but will get it posted somehow)

The guy in Timpsons was also a bit puzzled, but did then find a diagram of it in his book under Skoda title, but said it was not a transponder type key.

One more puzzle, when I returned from shop,  I could not even start vehicle by holding the original key against sensor as I had done earlier.

Unfortunately battery went flat, so now on charge overnight, and will try again in morning

As final resort, if I still totally fail - but manage to buy a s/hand switch with immo - or even go and buy another diesel felly or pick up and then salvage switch & key  plus remove immo box etc and fit all to my pick up will it work ot will I still have to get the auto lockman/elictrician to come out and re- code something?   They seem to charge about £100 to do anything?

All sounds drastic I know, but I love te pick up - it has  200k on it and runs great ( put clutch and gearbox in last week)

There is no other   pick except caddy out there which suits my trials bike business & riding  ( low and economical  etc)  so I am very reluctant to give in.

Anyway thanks for all help so far - will try to post key pictures in morning

Tried to post pictures of keys – but not a lot of success ( I am not that computer literate )

Will try again later as it may help for future queries

However, I am having success!

If anyone followed this tale of woe, it was original ignition switch that failed, and while working would not click back into position, So had to turn key back manually  into correct position  etc.

I had a spare swith off Felicia Diesel I broke some time ago, complete with keys. Car was going OK when bought  but no idea if it had immo connected as I just kept steering column/switch  .Immobiliser would not work with this new key . After advice from Teflon, I did find I could start vehicle  by holding original key against sensor while using replacement switch/key to turn engine.  However this did not always work ? When it did not it seemed a dis-connect of battery for some time helped it on next try

Up early this morning, had charged battery all night, as it could not start again late yesterday.  With hope in my heart , I tried with original key against sender – no go.  Took pictures of key to post ( another failure! )

Then some inspiration. The first key had jammed in lock and I had to take all to bits to retrieve it to be able to hold it against sensor and eventually try to get code put onto a new key.  However the mechanical part of key ( the bit with tumblers ) still seemed to turn OK.  It must be the back part – cylinder with  electrical connections that  is actually the sprung return/ position locator,  for  key.  This switch part is easily removed with two grub screws.  I put new switch part onto old mechanical part – hey presto all works.  Replaced dash and all rest, switch back in place – al OK

It is not logical to me why old key works perfectly when in switch, but immo does not recognise it when against sensor?    ( at least it did not early this morning).  Back on road – missed trial, but  never forked out £100 plus to Auto –trician

Thanks to those who  patiently tried to help, especially Teflon Tom. I will try to get pictures of keys on

you can swap the transponder chip between keys too, it is only glued in , if you open the key and soak the chip in thinners it will fall out, swap it to the key that works the ign barrell and job jobbed.
