Recommendations for colour

Featured Replies

Hi,

Looking at ordering a L&K 140PS Manual and interested in people's views on colours.

They seem a little limited to be honest but would appreciate thoughts of members.

I am particularly interested in the interior options.  The ivory looks great but what are people's experiences of keeping it clean?

If anyone has any pictures of their colour choices it would be great.

Thanks for reading this.

Colour is very much a personal choice and always results in some lively threads.

Keep it simple and let the wife decide.

Exactly how we ended up with black

Silver is the easiest, doesn't show the dirt so easily and is a good resale colour. I had a black car once and it was a pain to keep clean,

As a current owner of a black 2011 Twindoor, I can vouch for the 'nice when clean but a nightmare to keep it so' viewpoint.

I was determined to have something totally different and have just ordered a Brilliant Silver Estate, as having looked at many silver cars in the work car-park, this is a colour which hides the dirt well.  I also think silver suits the Superb Estate well and makes it look even more like a Merc or Audi (assuming that is a good thing of course).

I would have LOVED the Storm Blue that was recently discontinued - having seen one, it's a beautiful colour and way better than the current Petrol Blue. Hey-ho.

As for interior, I'm not convinced that black is actually as easy to keep looking good as you might think, as dust and fluff is usually light in colour and actually shows up more on black surfaces.  Alcantara in particular, is a total fluff-magnet.

Also having driven a black-on-black car for 3 years, I was determined to have a light colour inside to ring the changes.  Test drove an Elegance-spec model with Ivory leather and absolutely loved the bright and airy feel it gave the cabin.  I also noted that the Ivory is a lot less yellow in reality is it appears on the configurator tool.

Initially I was doubting the Silver and Ivory combo until I sat in a friend's 5-Series which has just that and it works absolutely fine.  He also pointed out that having a silver shell and light interior keeps the car significantly cooler if it is left in direct sun, which was something that had not occurred to me.

I've got the bright silver and it hides the dirt spookily well; the scratches too. Still looks literally brand new after 50k. Sole reason I got the silver was because the three-day-test-drive car came in that colour and looked great. Otherwise it would have been my usual dark blue with cream interior.

It's also my first black interior and I've got used to it now. Possibly because the intensity of the black is not so great, so avoiding a totally coal-mine look. As Twelvebears points out, I find myself hoovering the interior more frequently as the light-coloured dust shows up very easily. Conversely, the black suffers far less from permanent marking compared to my earlier non-Skoda light interiors.

Interestingly, while us slightly-older somethings like our dark blue/black paint and light interiors, the thirty somethings and younger consider it very old fashioned. Probably because the modern super cars tend to be black inside now, whereas they were typically cream further back.

The youngsters at work quite like my Superb, except for the heavy-looking back.

If you're after a car that stays clean - in a nigh on mystical way - then the bright silver certainly delivers.

I chose the car and SWMBO chose the colour -  cappuccino.
