In other words putting in a cheap resistor fools the code into allowing more fuel to the engine........i know my 130 pd was a lot quicker with a digital box on...and the torque increase was amazing

I thought that was pretty well understood. I was trying to highlight a bit more of the theory behind it. :P ;)

I've been doing a fair bit of research into this analogue vs digital tuning box theory.

Ultimately they both want to achieve the same aim - a variation in the signal sent to the ECU. What varies between the two types is the way it's delivered. I know how the analogue method works but a digital box still eludes me.

TBH I'm starting to think that it's all a bit of a storm in a teacup and that people are paying way over the odds for digital boxes.

I know that Chris was running a resistor for ages without problem and I have a 'friend' who may have run one on a car for a little while for research purposes.

Have run both on a 130 pd octy resistor made it a bit of an animal ALL or nothing digital much smoother but over a larger rev range and the torque it produced was out of this world ...towing a one ton caravan and accelerating uphill in fith was a new experiance for me...i still think it was faster than my current vrs octy....not top speed maybe but in gear times were much better

The modifcation of the Anlogue signal would be linear and shouldn't cause the all or nothing symptom unless the resistor size is wrong.

Be interesting to know what the values are coming back from the fuel temp sender.

The resistor one was like being hit in the back with a sledgehammer (swine to drive in the wet) whereas the digital one was just constant and smooth (but still quick) acceleration for much longer can't help with any figures though, sold both on to other brisky members, wish I had held on to the digital for a bit longer now though could have made a hell of a profit :D

Certainly no all-or-nothing on the PD100 and it pulled strongly to the red line. I should have checked what resistor was in the box so we could compare, but vfm, it was very hard to beat - I couldn't justify a digital box at 10x the cost as isn't 10x better ;)

My undertanding of a digital box is that it still uses a resistor to fool the sensor, but it has a map held on an EPROM which allows it to adjust the resistance applied for specific discrete values across the rev range. This is how they get round the CEL tripping that the analog box suffers from on later cars. So in theory, if you could copy the contents of the EPROM, it should be relatively easy to knock up one of these digital tuning boxes... :D

Can VAG-COM plot the output from the fuel temp sender?

Chris

Both of mine came from Mr Hoot/dragon tuning and to be fair their customer service was second to none....questions answered almost instantly and a good guarantee..........I would love to put a pd 130 octy witha digital box on up against a vrs octy...not for top speed but to compare acceleration and in gear times

Hi all,

I put

Again possibly down to the size of resistor.

In another life I may have tried two different resistor mods and a digital box as well. ;)

The resistor mod in my experience makes tickover lumpy especially when the air con is on and on a light throttle the engine sounds rough as well. I agree with others who experienced very on/off power delivery, it's good fun to start with but gets annoying after a while. I also experienced quite a bit of smoke with the resistor mod.

The digital box if set up correctly doesn't alter fueling at tickover or at light throttle settings and if anything feels smoother when driven normally, the extra torque comes in smoothly but there seems more of it from lower down the rev range and it lasts longer.

You just have to decide how much you want to spend and the results you want to get.

Resistor Mod, Analogue Box, Digital Box or Remap.

Don't see many Dragon Boxes on ebay currently, I only paid
