Columbia Head Unit Radio Issue

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Am new to this forum and to Skoda (though not to VAG cars), having just bought a 2012 Octavia. Really liking the car, but finding the Columbia HU less than intuitive. Have searched in most obvious places on this forum for my issue, but could not find prior posts.

Previous owner did a "Restore Factory Settings" on all items shown in settings. I've been having fun trying to get things working, such as pairing my Android phone with the HU (first trying to do this on HU, only to find much later that this only works using Maxidot display ...?)

Anyway, one thing I still can't get to work is the radio. I'm unable to receive any (FM or AM) stations when doing a search using

< and > buttons. Also, the station list remains completely "unpopulated", showing only the current frequency. The Scan option in Extras does nothing (because, I presume you need to have some Preset stations first). In short, it does nada, zip, zilch.

I'm hoping that someone here is able to inform me that I'm a dummy and that I'm missing some really obvious setting.

However, failing that, I'm concerned that perhaps the aerial connector has come adrift from back of unit (is this a known issue?), or some other hardware or even CAN coding issue. Still have 1 year's warranty left so could go to dealer, but would rather not if not needed.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance, Steve

Definitely sounds like an aerial issue. Could be loose at the back but I doubt it, and more likely to be the aerial itself. I would probably take it in as you have warranty. It is a bit of pig to replace yourself.

Have the head unit out and check the connections at the back. It's the white double connector.

Then go to the dealer and get it fixed as its likely to be a more serious issue and that's what a warranty is there for.

Hi adamal and KBPhoto,

Thank you for your replies to my post!

Both of you seem to agree that this is likely to be a hardware fault (rather than some config issue). Not going to touch this myself as I've still some warranty left, so I'll be taking the car to my local dealership for them to look at.

I'll post sometime soon to let you know how things turned out.

Thanks again,

Steve

No problem. Definitely the right way to go, as KB says that is what the warranty is for...

Good luck.
