TMC or BLUESPARK for VRS

Recommended Posts

The Scores on the Doors with a Dyno are interesting,  its the Power and Torque going up the Gears in a static position.

It is not real world, booting it and driving with car carry passengers, more weight,

different weather etc.

Care needs taken with Tuning Boxes and Boost to Turbo on a Twin Charger.

Care needs taken in Damp Moist Weather, Rainy or Damp,

Induction Kits etc, where you might get a Misfire.

70 mph. in 7th,  3,600 rpm. starting to put the engine under load,

maybe drop 2 gears with Down Change or Kickdown.

drops to 2,400 RPM, Supercharger on Demand and Turbo.

Thats the sort of place you get an EPC or Emissions light or both, & Limp Mode.

Maybe higher revs, 5,000 rpm plus and drop the RPM to 3,500 with a bit of kickdown.

Where a plug on its way out gives up the ghost.

Really it is a different matter from driving a Turbo Engine Citroen & feeling a Misfire from an Ignition Coil or such.

Fresh Plugs and they usually are fine,

just dont risk the expensive mishap before changing the Plugs.

(You got the Warning with Misfires that they need looked at and possibly changed.)

New Plugs fitted and tried out before the Remap or Tuning Box are a good idea,

so that you know what improvement is down to the Map or Tuning Box.

dont worry yourself george, when i had my missfires on the citroen i ruined a couple of sensors and a cat!

till i get the new plugs etc the car hasnt been on boost since i discovered it, change up to the next gear when it is available 2000rpm. im taking it careful till the issue is fixed :)

ITG and my centre resonator removed. But the jury is out on that one. Whether it aids performance or not!

An identical setup produced 211BHP on the Dyno, so I hope I'm close to that.

I have also had my centre resonator removed.

Hey george,

as you're aware im looking at changing my spark plugs, i would be doing this myself

i have just read that you can buy a tool to remove the coil packs.

do you NEED this tool, or can it be done without?

You can buy a tool from 'Awsome' or the likes.

or wait a minute and i will get you a fuzzy picture of my Tool.!!!

I think you will be able to have one just like mines, with a bit of trial and error.

so do you NEED this tool to remove the plugs?

wish i knew this last week when i was ordering all the tools/plugs needed for the job..

Example of a DIY Ignition Coil removing implement,   'Much Cheapness'.

thats ghetto, but looks to do the job.

ive bought the tool, its annoying working on modern cars, where you need specialist tools to change something as silly as a spark plug, tbh i have just went outside, and i do now see why you need the tool., you couldnt exactly fit your fingers in there to pull them out :(

(Sorry, Takes longer to find a poor picture than it takes to make one.)

Rubber pipe for lifting plugs out easily.

George, either your tool is made of titanium or your coilpacks have loosened a lot and they can be removed with a simple bended wire like that! I have the Scwaben tool and the first time I tried removing them (in from factory) they wouldn't move one bit. They did eventually and now I can do it with less than than half that power... Worth getting imho.

PS. I found pushing the coilpack back in against the un-screwed plug made it snap to it at the elastic part and it easily came out like that!

i just bought the tool from awesome, gave them a call and they done the delivery for £4.99 instead of the original £18.00 which came up.

this tool sounds like a necessity, im glad ive bought it tbh. time is money to me, although im cheap as hell, if its going to take me double the time i may as well get the tool! :)

It would be a brilliant comparison! Pretty much similar setups apart from the Tuning boxes.

yeah it would be a great comparison,

whats the details of your engine,

when was it last serviced?

what miles?

modifications?

My tool is indeed wonderful and not made of chocolate.

Hardly made out of just 'wire', just something that most welders have laying to hand.

Once coils are off or new ones go on,

i use just enough 'dielectric grease' on them.

*That is not me saying other people should apply 'dielectric grease', incase someone suggests i did say that i did.*

But first my weedy wire does the job.

& if i need another one because i do not have my own tools,, 'much cheapness' & hey Presto.

it looks pretty strong and sturdy imo, if its what im thinking it is, theyre a complete bitch to actually bend, theyre that strong...

ghetto, i like ghetto though, especially when it saves £15 on a tool.

BTW, i tried to become a freedom member a few times, and havent been able to get past stage 2???

That sounds similar to my issue.

I am running the TMC box and when the car is cold it misfires and cuts out from raising the revs.

I think the boxes are requesting too much boost too soon and its a ECU intervention to stop damage.

Since its gotten hotter for summer i haven't been having this issue anymore.

one side note,

i have developed a slight misfire on startup at 3krpm, after a ragging the issue goes away and is fine, it is worth noting though that im still on standard plugs at just gone 20,000 miles. the car had developed a rough lumpy idle over the past few weeks, prior to fitting the box. i have ordered BK7EIX plugs which will be gapped to .60 to replace the standards, with the assumption that this issue will be resolved.

god please dont say that, do you think switching settings will fix this issue?

i hope a change of plugs fix this.. this issue is only there just after start up on part/full throttle, once you have went through second and third the issue is gone till you turn the car on again then you have to do the same..

'dandanfings' has a CTHE ECU/Engine.    So a different thing.

The Original 'TMC Tuning Box' works well on a 1.4 TSI CAVE.

The Cheap 'TMC Box' is not so well used yet and might not be much cope.

(who ever is using one will need to say if they are any good.)

The 'BlueSpark Box' is an unknown quantity,

but what ever Box you use, you need good Spark Plugs and a Sound Engine & properly running engine before

fitting a Tuning Box IMO.

When ever you modify a cars engine, you need to be sure its running correctly and in good shape first, not just when fitting a tuning box.

On a side note. TMC now offer an ECU auto-flash (not a remap) which removes torque limiters and speeds gear shifts up by 50% apparently. The auto-flash also comes with the TMC box for a total of £800. If you already have the TMC box, i wonder if they do the auto-flash separately?

Surely every driver wants there engine running correctly, even when not Tuning or Modifying.

Lots of trial & Error seems to get done with the 1.4 TSI Twinchargers, it is a £4,000 plus Gamble.

I take it that the TMC Auto-Flash is for a CAVE & not a CTHE ?

I dont think its a big issue, if anything its good.

The ECU is stopping the car from having too much boost when cold.

The car drives fine after a minute or so.

Have been having a strange DSG issue though, check out my last VLOG at the end of the video when i launch from some traffic lights.

good engine! tbh i didnt know the plugs were going to be an issue... tbh.

george, i may be getting an intercooler in the next few weeks... i have found a kit from a company for a solid £260 with delivery! what a bargain, great deal IMO, i felt the need for an intercooler when i was standard...

i can only think that this will make a huge difference..

NOTE: now i know the sizes i will probably be able to build a kit up for less than £100...

Did a bad, just bought an intercooler kit for a grand total of £70, from a guy who owns a bocanegra.

details will be up on this forum of how you can build your own intercooler kit for less than £100 in a week or so for anybody interested?
