Which one should I go for?

Featured Replies

Back on the search now as I have the funds to purchase.    Looking at 11/61/12 plate vehicles with sub-50k miles.

Can you give me reasons why should I go for a Superb estate over an SMax?  Really torn between the 2 cars at the moment....

1. Its much nicer to look at

2. It has a far better ride

3. Is better built than the sMax

4. Is probably better equipt (in Elegance guise)

5. Is not as common (so more exclusive!)

6. You can contribute to the friendliest and most helpful forum on the web! :)

As already mentioned the Superb is superb. The SMax really makes a statement that you have finally given up on life.

If the Smax is like the Mondeo it'll drive like a lump of iron, Fords are very heavy feeling for some reason,

Having moved from a Mondeo to the Superb a few months ago - frankly the Superb is not in the same league as a driving machine. :)

I like the car, but the handling and ride are no match for the Ford.

The performance in the 170 is superb for a car of this size, admittedly the handling is barge like at times , fords are fords at best and not really in the same league for reliably or longevity as vag models

I've got a 170 and the mpg is good for a car of that size but the problem is the extra power can be a little tempting! and them the mpg can suffer with lead foot syndrome!

The performance of the 170 is impressive, I've got the 4x4 manual and it boasts a 0-60 of 8.7 seconds, the non 4x4 is faster! So much so the Mondeo drivers at work didn't believe a Skoda could go so fast that I caught one of them on the net checking the stats! Theirs only do just over 10 seconds! Lol

I just find em real heavy to drive tbh, I believe the Ford chassis does hold the road very well though.

Which is a triumph of hope over the facts!

From reliabilityindex.com

Mondeo index 69

Superb index 133

Where 100 is average and a higher figure is worse than average. :)

Road tests quote the Mondeo at 9.2 seconds for the manual 140 - not 10+. :). It's just that the Ford is quieter! ;)

I Stand corrected on some models but my brother and a work colleague who both have a 2.0TDCi Titanium that state 10 seconds and thats what I was referring too.

Let's be honest - in practice, on today's roads it usually makes no difference! I used to drive a Subaru Impreza turbo - and journey times were identical unless you drove like a prat! ;)
