Buying Insurance? A tip!

Featured Replies

Use a cashback website first.

Just paid a rather unhealthy £300 for my insurance with Aviva, I could have got it cheaper, but the excesses were in the £450-600 ranges for premiums of £200 or less, which didn't make much sense.

I used Quidco, they currently have a special offer with Aviva and so I accessed the Aviva site via Quidco (You must make sure adblockers & such like are disabled, it will tell you if it's not going to work, but you can find out how to make it work) and get the quote that way, if the quote is acceptable to you and you buy it there & then, you can get yourself £70 cashback.

So my £300 premium, now becomes a very acceptable £230 one!

The other site to try is Topcashback.

So before you do your insurance, try going via a cashback site, you can get between £25 & £70 back into your pocket.

Usually these excluded existing customers, so beware

But you can always try doing it as a "New Customer".

That's what I've been doing with Direct Line over the last three years, admittedly not via Quidco or Topcashback (only just joined them), but at the end of May, I've been doing the insurance online after receiving my quote and nailing them for nice savings of between £45-70.

Didn't work this year though and I even tried it with Direct Lines subsidiaries and they came up with exactly the same price as DL, so I would guess they've become wise to it and adjusted their systems,

When I tried the new customer with DL, came back more expensive than my renewal

I also went through quidco for my insurance, but used quidco compare instead of going directly getting through someone like aviva, and got £30 back from elephant. All helps!

Same here got £20 back from Chaucer and they were the cheapest quote anyway. £160 for a year fully comp on a VRS.

That's fantastic! Wish mine was that! It was quite good last January but 3 points and a non fault accident last year pushed it up at renewal time in January.
