Accelerator pedal problem and brake issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I am noticing a small issue with my car which I believe is linked to the accelerator cable/throttle pot, and was looking for a bit of advice.

On my 1.4TDi, intermittently the idle speed will sit at over 1250rpm. Tapping the accelerator pedal from any direction seems to remedy the problem with the idle speed going back to approx 800rpm (warm engine) which I believe it should sit about. I have seen other posts on here indicating the problem could be the accelerator pedal/sensor. Would I be correct in thinking the problem relates to this, and as the problem is currently very intermitent, is it too early to query (would it be looked at under warranty?)

Also, on a safety note, when I was investiating this, I noticed (with the vehicle stationary) that the engine will still rev up when the brake pedal is pressed down (and accelerator pedal pressed). This did NOT happen with my old Polo diesel - the Polo would kill the revs and sit about idle if the brake pedal was pressed. Could anyone confirm if this is correct for my car (1.4TDi 80bhp engine) or should I get this checked.

I had this on my roomster, if you stick you toe under the throttle pedal and lift it slightly it also drops back to normal idle,

I just lived with it as it did not happen to often, so couldn't be bother with replacing the pot/sensor on the throttle pedal

1.4 tdi still under warranty? I thought the last ones were 2010. Skoda warranty is 3 years 60,000 miles. If you have the extended warranty you must have paid for it so use it. If you use an extended warranty to investigate make this clear to the dealer on booking the car in.
