Mk2 Vrs PD mileage

Featured Replies

Hi all in the process of raising funds for my first Vrs still not decided between an estate or hatch, but definately going for a diesel as i drive between 15-25k a year, what im looking for is views and opinions on what mileage the 2 litre PD lump is good for? im used to the 1.9's that ive had in golfs, boras and my current a4 and i know looked after theyre are good for 2-300k aslong as theyre maintained, is it the same with the 2 litre?

all views opinion greatly appreciated

Yep, In general I'd say the 2.0 PD140 is just as good as the 1.9 in the reliability stakes. A member on here has a 2.0 PD DSG that has done just over 400,000 miles and is still going strong.

HOWEVER as you are looking at a vRS you will be looking at the 2.0 PD 170. This has a DPF, that can cause problems on a PD engine as they were never really designed with DPF in mind. There was also an injector recall on these engines which had been known to cause ongoing issues even after the recall has been carried out.

If you can afford it, save up for a vRS with a Common rail engine......these were fitted from 2008 onwards. If you can't afford a CR engined model then you'd probably be safer going for a 2.0 PD140 in a standard model with your annual mileage.

I have 2.0 TDI PD 170 VRS (manual) and can say all the best for this engine.

In familly we have also Superb 2.0 TDI CR 170 DSG and still...PD engine is better...for me...and more others

Cool im gonna be looking for one thats had as many of the issues resolved before buying ie dpf removal and clutch flywheel done, timing belt, and injectors, basically ill be looking for one with a excellent service history, there is one local to me for sale at the moment but the mileage was putting me off a little as its on 200k, other than the mileage the only thing wrong with it is a tear in drivers door card from where the owner leans his elbow, but on the plus side he seems to of really looked after it

You can easy remove driver door card, I have done them on couple of MK2, including my VRS, and why to remove DPF?

It is on the car with reason...

And in UK there is mentioning issues with MOT id you remove it, right?

The drivers door card elbow is very common on the MK2 across the whole range.

Im going to look at it this afternoon, ive read of so many problems from the dpf and its not a part i would be happy replacing when it goes wrong, so id definately be getting it removed if it has one as a preventative measure,
