JVC KD NX901 in a Fabia vRS - few questions

Featured Replies

I've just (well, over the course of the last two days!) attempted to fit a JVC KD NX901 (sat nav) unit and Aux adapter in my Fabia.

There's been a few teething troubles as it's obviously not as simple as fitting a regular stereo. I've overcome most of them but I have a few questions;

1 - Should I have used the metal cage to hold the stereo in place? I've found it VERY difficult to get the stereo in afterwards and it's still not entirely in place

2 - The brake sensor... At the moment the sat nav thinks I'm always driving because I've not hooked up the brake sensor. I did read that I can just short it so that it always thinks I'm parked - how can I do this? I don't really know electronics, so in lay man's terms please ;) I'd rather not actually hook it up to the brake sensor unless I absolutely have to. But as it stands I'm unable to set routes, even when I am actually parked.

Any help / advice would be great, thank you :thumbup:

Dunno about your JVC, but my Pioneer Avic was a tight fit in the slot. I guess there's a lot of cabling behind it - maybe removing the glovebox to get behind the head unit and rearrange the cabling will help.

By brake sensor, I guess you mean the cable that senses whether the handbrake is on? If so, most Avics have this connected to the head unit case or some other earth point, so the unit thinks the handbrake is always on. That way you can operate the system on the move e.g. to cancel a route. Check your installation manual - maybe all yours needs is an earth connection for the handbrake wire; if so, you don't need to touch the handbrake wiring at all.

Yep - that's the fella - the cable that senses whether the handbrake is on. What I've ended up doing is just fixing that to one of the screws on the back of the stereo itself. Seems to work a treat and it always thinks the handbrakes on now :thumbup:

Took two of us in the end to manage to squeeze all the cables in! I think it was a combination of the radio booster "thing" and the fact that the Aux cable for the JVC stereo consists of a very large square block - both of which made things very tight behind there.

Don't think I could do ICE for a living! :) Hopefully I'll post some pictures soon...

Take the glove box out and there will be no problems at all :)

As I have the luxury of being able to choose any headunit I like, I am going to try an NX901 on my trip to France in a couple of weeks.

As for the handbrake cable, as above just earth it out and it will be fine.

"no problems at all". hmm well. not strictly true. I had a hell of a game getting the head unit back in place. There really isnt a lot of space back there and the JVC unit has some rather large blocks of plastic that get in the way. Plus Ive fitted the Aux Port adapter which itself has another large block of plastic. Still, it's done now.

Btw, in the instructions to remove the glove box (cant remember the URL), there's actually three cables. One for the light, and the air con pipe as mentioned, but also the electrics for the air con.

connect the handbrake cable to a +12v line usually well my pioneer avic x1r (spit piece of ****) was

DO NOT connect the handbrake cable to +12v ! The handbrake systems for the headunits all work on the cable going down to Earth.

I just connected mine to a screw on the case of the stereo (i.e. the nx901)... works a treat.
