Greenline 1.9TDI

Featured Replies

Hi,

I been using a Greenline 1.9TDI as a taxi over the last yr and a half, no issues runs great with regular servicing ect.  Tell me....has the 1.9TDI engine been erased as far as  20012-14 models are concerned?

Id appreciate an update even if a newer engine since the 09 has been running and has proven as good as the mighty 1.9TDI ?

The 1.9tdi PD engine has been replaced by the 1.6 tdi common rail unit. Same 105bhp but torque delivery is smoother. Engine is much more refined and fuel efficiency has improved. You don't get the same surge of power as you do in the old 1.9 (followed by a big drop off) but the power is still there as is the torque.

1.9 replaced around 2010 by the 1.6.  I had the 1.9pd unit in an Octavia and I've driven some of the newer 1.6 greenline versions and the difference is quite noticeable i.e. in a good way.  Although I have a 170 myself, the 1.6 GL is actually not bad in a Superb.

Don't be put off by the 1.6 either. A lot of engines are getting smaller, quieter and more fuel efficient these days.  Haven't heard anything bad
about the 1.6 across any of the VAG models and its probably one of the most common (excuse the pun!) engines on the road now - all greenline Skodas, bluemotion VWs etc

Hi 170,

Many thanks....thinking in that case about a GLine 1.6TDI....will give it some more research.

Good luck,

As above.

The 1.6 has the same power, torque, acceleration and top speed as the 1.9 but with lower CO2 and higher MPG.

It is a smoother engine but doesn't have the same low down punch as the 1.9 but still pulls strong.

Lots of comments on the forum here about that engine in the Superb and mostly very positive too!

I have a 1.6 TDi Greenline Superb and just clicked over the 80k mark with no problems.

Biggest reason for going with the newer CR - less of a tractor noise inside the cabin...not a big issue with the Superb, but drive any Octavia with the 1.9 PD and then an Octavia with the 1.6 CR, and you'll notice a big difference.

Better MPG, lower emissions, lower tax, more linear power curve are all a bonus.

Or try an Ibiza with the 1.6 CR... it was noisier than our Octavia 1.9PD!

Just shows that the sound deadening and car size make a huge difference. I bet the 1.6 in the superb is very quiet.
