Advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I want to buy a new octavia 3 greenline (1,6tdi, 110hp) and I need some information from you guys:

- first of all, I want to know how does the engine "feel", because I didn't had the opportunity to drive the greenline at the drive-test. Is it that economical as "they" say?

- second of all, how does the start/stop system feel on the octavia iii? for example on vw golf it shakes like hell when the car starts.

- if i choose extra 4 speakers, where will they be positioned?

- is the "rear video camera" available for Amundsen MIB or is it "integrated" on the central rear window? In other words, is the amundsen capable of delivering realtime video?

thanks in advance!

   Valentin

It might help to give an idea of what advice you need in the topic subject if you want some replies. Many people won't bother looking at a post like this that doesn't specify what question you are asking in the subject. This is meant as a helpful comment!

Regarding your questions - I have a 2.0TDi 4x4 estate and the only question I can help you with is regarding the stop-start; certainly on my car it is a pretty gentle re-start and definitely doesn't feel like you describe with a Golf.

Hi Valentin and  welcome to the forum.

1.  I have not driven the greenline so not sure, but suspect the gearing will be taller than standard so less punchy performance.  Economy - cars rarely achieve claimed figures!

2. On my vRS it doesn't shake BUT it depends if you buy manual or DSG as to whether SS is a good idea or not. Personally I hate SS on my DSG so turn it off every trip.  Others think it's great. It's a personal thing.

3. On the vRS I have 1 in each door plus 2 tweeters in front doors at he base of the A pillar, 1 on the dash and a subwoofer in the boot (8 in all).  I would guess yours would be the same.

4. sorry I can't help

Cheers

Rick

SS is just like starting with the key, so if you don't like the slight vibrations of an engine start when you do it yourself then SS will be the same.

Thanks for your replies!

Now there's only one issue left- the camera. I've done a lot of research but nothing came out. maybe it's because this feature it will be available only starting week 40/2014 (october)... the main problem is that I want to buy the car now and i'm not shure what should I do. I think i'll choose the front and rear parking sensors and leave the camera feature out of the order.

I just use the sensors and so far they seem very accurate.  They won't stop you reversing over a cliff though, as they only detect physical objects around the vehicle whereas a camera would show you the cliff approaching.  In the grand scheme of things, backing over a cliff is probably not the biggest risk you'll face in your life :)

Hahahahaaaaaa the best way to put it! Yeah, I think i'm reconsidering my primal decision... so I shall vote for front/rear parking sensors and maybe, after that, if Amundsen MIB is sapable of rendering images from a "rear camera".. i'll buy one from ebay and that's that.

Time will pass and these forums will be full of topics regarding this issue (with the amundsen mib)...

Thanks a lot guys!

If there's a Greenline III owner around (1,6tdi, 6manual, 110hp) please DON'T hesitate to write down your impression of the car...

Be aware that with additional rear speakers you'll end up with a mid and tweeter in each of the rear doors to mirror whats up front.

No UK spec cars come with a 4 speaker sound system.

A post made above eluding to a centre speaker and sub was with regards to the Canton upgrade and is technically a 10 speaker system. I dont think you can have Canton without the Bolero MIB infotainment and above.

Good point - I only counted 8 as that's all you can see (and yes, it is a Canton in my car).  I only have 2 ears though ;)

No, I think I was missunderstood. No Canton system upgrade. From what I know, the standard number of speakers on Amundsen MIB is 8, and in the configurator I can choose extra 4. so they're 12 total.

That's not an option we get in the UK - it's a standard 8 speaker system or the canton with a subwoofer in the boot and an extra speaker in the dashboard.

I believe it is the third configuration on this image?

Hopefully should give you more info :)

Very interesting, thanks

No dont think that is correct if you order Swing and above (so Bolero, Amundsen or Columbus) you'll get 8 speakers no matter what, is the standard fayre on those systems.

V boggo spec EU models come with a Dance head unit with only front (4) speakers I believe.

The 12 speaker system in that diagram is the Sound System upgrade from the Mk2 and not relevant on the Mk3.

Another one question: if I buy a rear video camera from ebay (for example) can I connect it to Amundsen's screen? do you know anyone who did that already? i know that Amundsen doesn't playback videos but that does NOT mean it CAN'T; it must be some software restriction or something (maybe to justify the huge price difference between Amundsen and Columbus).
