lcd tv's

Featured Replies

im looking for a new tv and was possibly thinking about risking it with an lcd

is 26" an alright size?

is the panasonic TX26LXD500 any good??

Don't do it without having a proper look at one in the flesh from a choice of sources including DVD and digital TV.

I've yet to see any LCD or Plasma screen that gives a picture close a nice CRT set.

Have you noticed how all the demonstration sets are showing some sort of cartoon (usually finding nemo)?

That's because they look pretty ropey when showing anything else

id be using it with a pc for playing dvd's so it should be an ok picture but i know the picture is **** with a regular source

Dr Zoidberg's right. Can't beat CRT at that size.

You can pick up a 32" Flatscreen CRT Tosh for around

no i know similar priced wouldnt but the one i was looking at was 1200 ish

For 1200 quid I'd buy a very nice 32" sony CRT set (the one I have cost 600 quid) and spend the rest on a projector for a real cinema effect

how about for a crt the tosh 36ZP48

This might give you some background info, so that you can sound knowledgeable to a salesman before getting talked into something.

nly offered as a supplement, since personal recommendation and experience is much more valuable.

I always wondered why Makro constantly plays Finding Nemo and Shark Tale on all its LCD TVs....

Not in the market for a TV yet as my old 25" panasonic is still going very strong (always liked the brand for longevity of its products) LCD TVs have yet to appeal to me, and if I had to buy a new telly tomorrow, it would be a regular flatscreen, widescreen one. Unless space is a real issue, I don't see why I should get a TV only 1" deep.

I have the Tosh 32ZP36 with Dolby digital and 100hz screen, I got it brand new off ebay for

CRT's are history, LCD's are better (You need a high viewing angle to get a good picture), Plasma is the best but is a little pricey at the moment. If you wait 3 or 4 years they will be 1/2 the price

Plasma screens are terrible. They don't last and suffer from screen burn-in. Go LCD over Plasma where possible.

my plasma is getting on for 18 months old now and shows no age what so ever and looks good :)

i watch DVD's, game machine's and SKY+ on it so don't care for 'regular' TV inputs on it

Have had a 42" plasma tv since feb, excellent pic with no burn in and is used around 12-15 hours per day, and newer ones no longer suffer from longevity or burn in problems. The MTBF of my set is the equivelent of leaving it on 24/7 for 25 years before the picture degrades. Our local train station now uses them to display train arrival / departure information as does Luton/Stanstead airports, and these have no burn in either despite displaying a simillar image almost constantly.

With Plasma, its all on the signal being fed to the set. With my now ex ntl stb the picture was useless, my RGB connected dvd player is better, but now I feed it via a DVI connected pc running MCE2005 and the picture is superb. DVDs are lifelike, and TV has to be seen to be believed and this is from freeview.

LCD suffers badly due to pixel refresh rates, like pc monitors. Watching sport or fast action on an lcd tv is awfull, and blurry made worse as the screen gets bigger, and the backlight can be a pain in dark environments.

I looked at a lot of TVs over several months before settling on the set I have now, when buying a TV you need to go and view them in different environments preferably with different sources and see which is best for you.

Your theory about playing finding nemo etc, is partly true. Some stores feed the same signal to multiple sets and each split degrades the signal so you need something with good contrast to make up for it.

If ever you do want a Sony screen and are prepared to venture to Hampshire to save a few quid, let me know :)

hum well maybe i will have to go for a crt again then

so anyone know any really good crt's

Mike, just a thought, there was another thread with a pretty big LCD / plasma / CRT debate. Was more to do with the lcd / plasma IIRC.

You may have jumped over that hurdle, or not as the case may be ;) if you've decided on a CRT :)
