Can the variable floor be removed?

Featured Replies

So we've spent £27,000 upgrading our Skoda Octavia II to a brand new Skoda Octavia III.

Imagine our horror when our dog crate (that comes along with the dog where ever we go) doesn't fit in the car.

We have spent ages trawling through the instruction manual etc trying to figure a way to fit the crate in to no avail.

Can anybody shed any light into whether the variable floor can  be removed?

It can be folded to low level which I think means same height + floor thickness. Shows in manual. Fold back. Then at each side underneath is a catch. Lift and go from there. I managed without the manual OK.

Yeah i have done this, it still doesn't give enough room for the dog crate. We used to have to fold the back seats back and the collapse the backs of the seats to fit it in. we were assured by our salesman that we could still do this!

So is the issue that the crate is to tall, wide or deep?

And do you lift the back seats and then lay the backs down?

The lower 'bench' of the mkIII rear seats is fixed, all you can do it fold the backrests down.....

Only had mine since Friday, not moved anything big yet :)

We foster Labradors so also had to go for the estate. I am planning to get a dog guard fitted.

As Neily03 said 'the back seat is fixed only the back rests fold forward' giving a slopped floor and dropping the boot floor gives a slope at the seat end of the boot too!!

Back to the salesman to ask for some compo for miss salling

Sorry hit wrong button.

As i was saying

Back to salesman to ask for some compo for miss selling you a car not fit for your needs.

That may cover your costs of getting a new dog box.

Not what you want to hear, but it was really your responsibility to check if it was that important to you.

You can fold the floor and stand it behind the rear seats, you might have to pop the catches on the seats to get it to stay in position.

How can the salesman be expected to know if a box fits or not?

If it was important then the OP should have checked themselves.

Can I ask as a dog and Mk II VRS owner, is there no point in having the variable floor if you have a four legged friend and a plastic boot tray thing?

We were specifically told it was exactly the same in the boot as the previous model! Apart from actually taking the dog crate 50 miles to the show room we just had to rely on what the salesman told us. We have a big dog, hence the estate, so along with a big dog goes a big crate. In the specs for the car it actually states that it is bigger. This may be the case, for the area but the opening to the boot and the mechanics of the boot is much smaller.

It is no detriment to Skoda whatsoever, i love the car but i love my dog more and just a little unhappy at having to buy hundreds of pounds of crate when i have a perfectly good what sitting here!

We have 2 dogs and I have bought the dog guard and rubber boot mat, although I am not letting them until I get one of these to protect the sill.

I personally don't see the point of an adjustable boot full stop, and with dogs it makes even less sense.

RearGuard it fits a mkiv Octavia must have inside info as I was sold a mkiii ?

If your dog cage is that big and you must of driven the 50 miles to your dealer was the cage not in your car ??

Seems a bit of a home goal to me if the dealer can not help you.

I completely see the point of having a flat load area in an estate car. I also see a lesser benefit in having hidden storage space under the floor of the boot in an estate car.

I don't see the point in dogs, however.

*cue lots of people turning the VBF thread into an argument against gt40 for not seeing the point in dogs*

I find the under floor storage really handy to keep an umbrella, fluoro jacket, set of spare bulbs, a couple of maps and other odds and ends that I wouldn't want sliding around the boot all the time.

Then for every day use I have the floor folded into a ridge to divide it in half (again to stop sliding) and when I need to move something large it drops flat for easy access.

For me it was an excellent choice as everything that was seen in my old hatch is now hidden and secure in the rear half, including 2 of those folding nylon chairs with the metal frame. Then as stated above the folded front bit holds the shopping bags in place. "Simply Clever".

Non of this helps the original post much!

Perhaps we should start a new thread.

I packed my boot and in it I put .............

This is all a good lesson in talking a tape measure with you to the dealer when looking at a new car.

I know someone who wanted to upgrade from a Mk2 Octavia estate to a Mk2 Superb estate. They carry a bike around in the boot of the Octavia a lot that only just fits. They measured the Superb boot and found that although it has greater volume overall, it was 10mm shorter in length. So the bike would not fit in the Superb.....they bought another Octavia.
