Scan logs, lambda probe and enabling some hidden features

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am a bit forced to respawn an old problem of mine. On short, my scan logs are telling me that the lambda probe is bad and the gas analyser says that my CO and HC levels are way too high. After I replaced the Oxygen sensor BEFORE the catalyst, the problem re-occured after less than 3miles. I don't have an engine management light or any errors in the dashboard, everything is clean and fine, but when scanned, VCDS is still saying the following:

16514 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1
            P0130 - 35-00 - Malfunction in Circuit - STATIC
17584 - Bank1: O2 (Lambda) Correction Behind Catalyst
            P1176 - 35-10 - Control Limit Reached - Intermittent

Local Skoda dealer shop told me they will have to send the new lambda probe to the warranty to check if it is DOA for some reasons. And, if it good, they also told me they will have to re-soft the ECU. I really don't know if this is the right way to do it.
Another thing is that when I do the lambda probes test in VCDS, the first one says it is fine there, but the second one fails the test. The second one was never replaced and even that I insisted, they didn't want to replace it, telling me the issues are caused by the first one or by the ECU.
The engine is starting fine, cold/hot, no problems with this, the milage I get is pretty decent, it does have decent power, it feels ok, but I am concerned about damaging the catalyst by running on a rich fuel/air mixture and air polution. It's an Euro 4 engine and my exhaust says it's non-euro, it is pretty disturbing.

I also tried to check with VCDS if there is any check engine light in my dashboard that can be activated somehow, but I finished enabling only the lights for the washer fluid and the breakpads. Do you know if there is any option to check if I have an engine management light in my dashboard and how to see if was de-activated by a previous owner ? I don't want to see it on, of course, but I would like to know when there is a problem, without scanning it each time.

Another problem is that after I enabled the washer fluid, breakpads and the seatbelts lights from my dashboard, the first two are not going away after I put the ignition on, and the third is going away after a few moments, even if the seatbelts are not in their place. Would this mean that I don't have the whaster fluid, breakpads and seat belts sensors at all on my car ? (my washer tank was full and my breakpads were confirmed just this morning by my mechanic that are ok and don't need to be replaced).

The engine management light is supposed to come on when you turn on the ignition and stay on until you start the engine.

As in this video...

It depends on the model of your Fabia as to whether it has a low washer fluid sensor. Not sure about brake pad wear sensors but I've never seen a Fabia with them yet.

That engine management warning doesn't light on when I turn on the ignition.

That tells me the cluster has been tampered with in the past, my bet is that a piece of black tape has been placed over the LED behind the instrument dials as you cannot remove the LED from the circuit board, most likely to hide the fact its always on. Someone has found similar in the past and discovered the engine light was always on.

Was the new lambda probe an aftermarket one or OEM. You need to check the wiring continuity from the lambda sensor, including through the connector.

@mannyo : You might be right with what you are saying about messing up with the dashboard and stuff in the past, by a previous owner, I will have to take it out and see what's wrong with it. The wiring has been checked and double checked, all good, including the connectors. The new lambda probe was OEM, Bosch to be more precise. The dealer found it after my VIN number if I am not wrong.

But, all in all, as I am no mechanic or electrician, but I do have basic knowledge about cars, I did buy a VAG-COM interface, 9.12, installed the software that came with it on my laptop and ran a scan. The funny thing is that, when I am getting to the lambda probing tests (bank 34 and 43), the first one (S1B1) is seen as OK, and the second one, S1B2 is not Ok. For the one AFTER the catalyst, during the test, when about to finish it, the voltage displayed on the screen drops from .55V to none. I insisted to replace the second o2 sensor, but each time they told me it's not it. Well, if it's not it, would it be detected as faulty just because the first one is not working properly ? Will have to buy both of them just to be sure? What if I will do this though and the problem will still be there?

L.E.: just to be sure, is there anyone on this forum with a 1.4MPI engine with 8v, ATZ, who can confirm that the engine management light comes on when the ignition is powered ?

Slightly puzzled why you call me "L.E." :S

Anyway, I'm afraid I don't know who has an ATZ engine but I would have thought they all had the same engine management lights.

I wasn't calling you that way, it was a Later Edit of my post.
