putting spare in new car, inflation kit in old one?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I should be picking my new car up this week and it has an inflation kit fitted but my old car has a space-saver. So my question is should I remove the spare and tools and give it back like that and put my old spare in the new car and if the dealer calls to say there is no spare give him the inflation kit from the new one? Or should I be upfront and just ask if I can swap them over when I collect my new car and see what they say?

Cheers

Rob.

It would depend on whether or not they have checked to confirm the old car has the spare when they valued it for trade in. If they do and it's missing they may adjust their valuation to suit. If they didn't bother to check then what difference will it make? Surely it will be up to the new customer to check and request a spare if they want one.

Hi Kammy,

Nope, didn't check the boot, just had a walk around, checked the mileage, that was it!

Id take it out.

I like to call it, getting a better deal :).

If you do this with all the cars you trade in, you could build a new car with the bits and trade that in too.

But yeah, I'd take it out as well.

I took the spare and tools out of my recently traded in Fabia HTP, put them in my replacement Fabia TSI and put the gunge kit from the TSI into my HTP.  All done up front with the dealer who had no concerns.  At the end of the day, it makes no difference to them money wise.  In fact they may end up with a sale of a new spare wheel and tools to the new owner of my HTP.

I had the same problem but just asked the garage and they were happy to just let me swap my jack, spare and stuff into my new car, putting the inflation kit into my trade in. Most will allow it. It's not a high value thing and the garage appreciated the honesty.

If its a half decent dealer he should have no problem with the swap (provided the spare/saver will fit).

Spare wheels tend to be an option rather than an OE item so it should not effect the car/specifiction as far as the dealer is concerned for him selling it on.

Be up front honesty pays in the long term :)
