Window grinding noise

Featured Replies

Went to put my windows down and about 2/3rds down a big grinding noise and came to a stop.

Bugga regulator, I knew it.

It went back up with a horrible grinding noise till it fully closed.

Now I'm not going to use it as I know it will plummet downwards on next use, maybe.

Big sticker on button now to remind me not to use it.

As it was still functional is it still best to replace the whole regulator ? Or could the wire have just come off and be put back on ?

Cheers all.

This has just happened to me a few weeks back rear drivers window was making a horrible noise for a while,

driving home one day the window just shot down scared the life out of me!

Got a new regulator from flebay popped into and sorted.

Front drivers just gone now and is currently wedged up with card board! Going in tomorrow for new regulator! It's a proper annoying thing to go wrong!

To answer your question, I found when I removed mine the metal wire had rusted and snapped. There are repair kits and I think it's easier just to but a regulator and bolt on your old working motor. And grease everything up.

Got passenger from regulator from eBay and no problems with fitting and easy to fit (once you get the door card off)  :D

I had this problem, and only just replaced the cables on saturday! Right mess! The cables going into the regulator were chewed up and weren't going anywhere haha! I found that it's damaged the cable for the outaide handle so can't open the front passenger door from outside haha!

2 back windows to sort now, clicking noise on the back right but not moving, and the back left just dead, no clicking noise or nothing!

If you want to do a DIY fix.. Providing the plastic spool and  runner clips are intact you could simply buy 2 cycle gear cables putting the barrel nipple end (x2) onto the spool

and then using a 3 or 5 amp size terminal block connector less the plastic sleeve to secure the un-nippled end of the cable into the plastic window runner clip (I soldered mine for good measure) and tightened the the 2 grub screws as much as possible. The cables do purtrude through the plastic clip but they don't catch anything so not an issue.

reassemble: set the runners to half way and wind the spool 2 and a half times for each cable.Make sure the spring on the original cables sits half way into the spool holder when all is reconnected up. then apply copious amounts of grease to all the moving bits including the spool.

My fix I did 3 weeks ago on my Furbys NSF door is working a treat a lot smoother than my door !  .....my next job I fear.

I dont know if an Octy is the same as a Furby  the door lock button carrier on the regulator panel requires patience and care when removing its a black plastic honeycomb looking thing

I broke mine however managed to sort with a bodge.

I have bought a new regulator to do the weekend. Looked simpler than a fix.

Much easier and better to buy regulator and replace. A tip is to spray silicon grease on cable runners and where that white plastic runner guide is and also the white pulley wheel the cable loops over. This will greatly improve smoothness and stop potential snagging and the eventual dropping from snapped cables.

The one I bought was covered in grease, which was good. :)
