Octavia Scout 2008 TDi (BMM)

Featured Replies

hi

Just joined the Briskoda community!

Recently been looking for a scout (Octavia).

Have a limited budget and have come across a local guy selling his 2008 Scout TDi. (BMM)

I owner, full history (not all main dealer), cam belt @ 72k now done 110,000.

Drives great, starts great. No rattles, squeaks, engine sounds ok etc.

Only problems I can see are that;

  • the OSR bumper has been tagged by the owner hitting a post (so he says), and the plastic wheel arch is partially separated from the bumper and doesnt seem to want to readily go back into place.
  • Couple of the wheels are showing signs of the lacquer coming away.

  • My concern is that, simply removing an replacing the existing bumper wont allow the plastic arch and bumper to be realigned and it will need to have new parts fitted and painted. If this is the case, the car is probably priced a bit high.
  • The wheels will probably need to be refurbished.

Does anyone have any experience in refitting the plastic arch and bumper and getting them realigned?

Or, is it possible to fix easily and cost effectively?

Obviously, I cant remove the bumper to see the full detail.

Bloke wont budge below £5,500

Would appreciate any feedback ( I know its not easy without seeing the car or photos), E.G. is it worth it, event at the asking price with the slight damage?

Whats the cost of proper wheel refurbishment these days?

Should I walk away?

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

hi REEDOM

thanks for the reply, I had kinda guessed that the cost of the wheel refurb would be in that region.

Regarding the wheel arch/bumper. The lip of the arch has been "knocked" by a post and has suffered slight indentation, and the bumper/plastic arch are separated.

The arch itself doesnt look too bad (seems to be intact), my fear though is that with the bumper being pushed in slightly and the arch being damaged slightly, that neither bits of plastic will be coerced into their original places.

If this is the case then, Im presuming that a new bumper and arch would be required + painting. £££

The Scout is a great car, mine is a 2008 and now at 115k miles. The wheels needing a refurb is a given on these, mine were done a few years ago, its not a case of if but when they need doing. I paid £220 for mine to be done in anthracite.

At the mileage watch out for the DMF as mine now has a chatter at low rpm gentle throttle in higher gears.

The front drivers side arch trim detached from the front bumper when someone scraped past in a car park but it seemed the 2 were just clipped together and a couple of swift kicks reconnected them without a problem.

I looked at trading mine for a Superb 4x4 a few months ago and was offered £5k for it, so he is probably just trying to get an extra monkey over the trade offer.

What colour is the Scout?

Quite a few bumpers on eBay if needed...

As mentioned the Scout alloys (Proteus) all delaminate eventually. I've just had mine refurbished for £260...

hi

Once again thanks for the reply.

Like the sound of anthracite alloys, would probably go for something like that.

Thanks for the heads up re the DMF, I am right in saying that Skoda do a fixed price full clutch/DMF replacement for £599 on an Octavia? Cant say I noticed anything and I did drive the car slowly in 5th and accelerate without much complaint from the engine.

On the subject of the clutch, I noticed that the clutch bite level is quite low - is this normal or indicative of something else?

Reckon you're right re the price, I know he is getting a new Skoda Rapide, so I guess the dealer made him an offer he didnt like.

Main dealer quoted £278 for new bumper + £56 for new wheel arch piece over  bumper. Body shop quoted £250 to fit and paint.

I guess I know the worse case scenario now re the bumper. the body shop said that might be able to repair for much less.

hi

The car is Silver.

Your wheels look perfect, the local body shop does wheel refurbishing, so will give them a call.

If I need to get a new bumper, I had considered eBay as long as the bumper is sound - great way to save few bob and keep OEM replacement parts.

The local body shop said they can do some pretty amazing repair jobs on bumpers, so thats also an option.
