Do you now have a Fabia vRS,

 thats nice?

Are you going to share with us what you got?

Yes you are missing the point,

& i think on purpose.

Reason for the pictures is for some that might read the posts and have never actually seen the pipes we are talking about.

(that might include you actually, as i think until recently you had not opened a bonnet of a vRS)

The REVO document is the only one that is Published that list problems that have been happening with CAVE 1.4 TSI.

Certainly nothing like that is in print from the Volkswagen Group or Skoda.

No mention of Breather Mods by REVO,

because the Document was Published before VW came up with the Breather Pipe/Vale Modification.

They are just warning their Agents of the possible Issues.

It was worth a try on the off chance that I might get some idea as to why you regularly post the same random years old warning from Revo and in this case, some unexplained out of focus photos of an engine ;)

ps - DO you actually know what is involved in the breather mod?

I post the same REVO warning which is ** 3 years old **

because sometimes new members come in this section and on a thread,

and the possible faults are all in one place, there were various issues from 2008-9 on.

if you know what the Link is, no need to open it.

Yes i know what is 'Involved in the Breather mod'.

If you bother to do more Search Engine searches, you will know as well.

Then you can 'make a stickie',  telling people what it is, what it does, and more such positive assistance.

Hang on in there mate, quite a few have suffered in the same way, just read the various threads over the last two years.

But Customers are gradually getting some action .

Mainly because Skoda don't want this issue hanging around, as they go into the launch of the New Mk3 with customer distrust hanging around!

Bumping this.

?

Does anyone with a 2010-2012 CAVE engine car still have a Dealership or Skoda saying to them they must try a Breather Pipe / Valve mod

done after the Engine having had an Oil Consumption test?

?

Has anyone recently had a Revised Set up fitted and found that their engine is now using less oil?

cheers.

I've had both versions.

The first one made no discernible difference (usage remained at previous levels of 2-4,000km per litre).

The second may have improved matters slightly (3,500-5,000km per litre), but still too early to tell if that was down to having fresh new oil or a different brand of oil, warm but not hot ambient temperatures, etc.

Thanks.

Yours is still the Only Breather Mod of that type i have seen, and you had that done in Australia.

?

Could you please post the picture of it here please.?

Ta.

Added above.

Incidentally, this car is advertised for sale in Canberra. It must be one of the last 2014 models in this country. Take a look at the relevant piping. Does anyone with a late CTHE have the same arrangement?

My car went in to have breather mod done when the oil consumption test was done. but had no effect on the usage.

Perhaps Skoda UKCS can publish, from their records, a ratio of Breather Fixes to New Engine Replacement. Under the consumption Test Protocol introduced by VAG.

Based also on consistent process /procedure adhered to by dealer service departments.

My guess is that figures are conveniently not available.

Oh! nearly forgot Breather mod1 or breather mod2(Oz example.)

When my car originally had the issue it was using .056l of oil every 300miles and with the breather mod it used 0.69l of oil every 300miles. This was the reason why the engine was changed. Having had the engine for 4500 miles it hasn't used any *touch wood*.

I am closely monitoring this though it wont be used as much as I now have a company car to use every day.

TomR88,

Your experience sounds similar to Sittingbull's. That's good news mate.

The oil consumption issue is a real shame to some owners because the car is seriously good piece of kit. Performance, practicality, looks and always puts a smile on our face.

In my opinion, the Mk2 Fabia vRS is a seriously fantastic car!!!

  • 1 month later...

Having had my breather mod #2 in for approx 6000km, I thought I'd report in for the record.

The car has now done 35,450km and has used, gulp, 11.1L in total. Maybe a little more as two minor services, and one mid-service oil change, would have saved me three top-ups.

In the first 14,800km (when it was serviced), 3.65L was put in. Not good, but not as bad as some. The first breather mod was installed during this period at the 10,000km mark.

In the second 14,600, 6.1L was burnt. I've only just realised it was this bad, looking back over my records. Problems with the motor or breather mod #1 not doing its job? I feel like that's a long enough period to allow for inconsistencies of driving, weather conditions etc to even out. I should mention there was a change of oil at 22.2k mark, for Liquimoly Toptec 4200, and 3.75L went in during the subsequent 7.2k, as opposed to the 2.35L during the first 7.4k of this period. The car felt smoother with this oil, but maybe it contributed to the increased usage. I won't be using it again for this reason, but it may be getting accused of a crime it didn't commit.

As I had the second service done at 29,450 approx, I mentioned the car was still using oil, and they said they would install the "new breather mod". Not expecting much, I said go ahead, it's free after all.

Anyway, since the last service I have added 1.35L over the 6000km, which is again not ideal, but certainly better than the 15-30k figures I was getting. During the "Liquimoly spell", which was immediately before the service and replacement with whatever is current recommended oil (it said Quantum Long Life on the paperwork, but that could be a generic entry), the car would have used about 3L over 6000km.

In conclusion, whether from the breather mod #2, or simply the change of oil brand change, or all of the above, there has been some improvement. I still love the car, but obviously topping up less oil between services makes my mind, and my wallet, feel even better.

Perhaps we now need to introduce another column - Squirter mod - does it work ?

May be OzFabia you can start a new thread. So the we can get a real handle on success rate.

Skoda garage couldn't find the gearbox judder on pull away. Just took to another garage and there telling me the clutch pack has had it and it's gonna cost 2.5k to fix. Have I got a case to raise with Skoda? Out of warranty but the car has only done 28300 miles.

Put in a goodwill claim online with Skoda UKCS. How long out of warranty / Full Service History with Skoda Dealer?

11 months out of warranty last service was private garage

What is important with the Dq200 dsg even if past the 3 price even soon 5 year warranty is, what was reported previously by ownwrs what in warranty. What checks Skoda. Had done, and was the service campaign work carried out, check and replace MCU if required. And the synthetic oil changed and a follow up check done. SKODA. Know they built boxes with potential faults now, and ones that could have clutch pack failures. George

I used 3L of oil before the engine change. So I can believe the 0.5l to 140 miles. After the breather mod it was between 4 and 4.5 litres. Can't remember the exact figure. I believe the majority of my miles were done on cruise control between 65-70.

When you look logically at what the breather modification does and where it's placed, I don't understand how Škoda would even think this works. Does anyone have any clue as to how it's SUPPOSED to work officially? I have a decent idea myself.

Re the Clutch packs and Warranty, 3 or 5 years. SKODA / VW know or should which Dq200 DSG needed the MCU checked and possibly replaced, because they could cause clutch pack issues. Also the Quality Control issues, so pursue Skoda Uk on their design, manufacturing or quality control and Service Campaign shortfalls. They know they have Customer Responsibilities because of past inactions. ie it's at their expense now, warranty or not.

Re Replacement CAVE, then also Cthe, skoda / VW know it was them with design, materials, manufacturing, quality control and software issues and not resolved and they again need to try try and try again. Huge Corporation taking the Pith. Hit them where it hurts, keep them having to pay out. They knew the issues when the warranties were still valid.
