Nissan Micra SR 160

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Looking at one of these for my girlfriend. I have searched online but cannot find many issues with these cars. The engine code is HR16DE if I remember rightly.

Does anyone know of anything I should look out for?

Any information is much appreciated.

There an alright little motor but if your girlfriend wants a hot hatch get a fiesta ST.

I owned one for 6 years, only issue was the smoked front headlight lenses went yellow/cloudy, I polished them up but within a year they had started to turn again. Nissan dealers are not the cheapest, but they are easy to work on. Only fairly common issue is the drivers door locking mechanism seizes, only about £30 and 20 minutes work to replace.

Awesome! Thank-you for the information.

I cannot sign up to micra.org due to my e-mail security at work; it looks a decent site though, thanks for the link.

My girlfriend owned a K12 1.2 04 Nissan Micra SE for 3 years; the timing chain stretched causing the EML light to come on; whole new timing chain etc about 3 weeks after purchase. Just want to make sure she doesn't get stung again.

I would go for a Fiesta ST or similar but she loves the look of the Micra (it's cute apparently)!

Do these engines have a timing chain too?

I feel cheated

I was like woah theres a 160bhp nissan micrawave...

Quick google search and the 160 must come from being a 1.6 somehow

:(

Yes the HR16DE is chain driven, I seem to remember the chain stretch issue was only on early 1.2's.

The engine in the 160sr is a slightly detuned version of the one found in the Renault Twingo 133.

Also, the 160sr was only produced for a short time after which it was rebadged as Sport+

Yes, bit of a shocker it's got 110bhp.

It's like a Monte Carlo, mostly just a styling exercise on a car that's then cheaper to run than a real sports model.

I used to run a primera before my vrs (actually I had 2) and also belonged to the owners club there. Unfortunately after Renault took hold of the product line chain stretch and sometimes breakage became far more regular than it ever was on Nissan branded and built earlier cars. Some cars were known to stretch at extremely low mileages for a jap car - around 40000 miles.

Just check the car out well and be cautious of eml's being on. I really liked my Nissan's so you may be surprised how good they are.

Ive had a micra, primera and a almera tino. I had a thing for the nissans
