Yeti vs Soul

Featured Replies

Took my brothers new 2014 Kia Soul out for a test drive to compare against my Yeti 1,2.

Acceleration about the same

1,6 diesel engine roars abit at low speed then goes quieter

I liked the dash layout

Steering felt light

My opinion like marmite you ether love it or hate it

I've looked at it but insurance looks expensive, fuel consumption isn't brilliant, and it doesn't have the towing capacity.

I don't mind it's "look"

They have just up loaded a video on You Tube from Carbuyer UK. It gets very mixed reviews, the downside same as the Sportage, the engines are not as refined as they could be,both petrol and diesel.

7 Year Warranty?

Traps you into 7yrs servicing with the dealers, good moneymaking move yes I know you can take it to any garage ,but not many will.

Are you actually trying to say having a warranty is a bad thing?

A lot of people here take their cars to the dealers for servicing anyway. If you don't consider the trade off worth it, then don't service at the dealer ever.

7 Year Warranty?

Ah!  Will you actually have to fight to use it when / if needed . ;)

Generally suspicious about someone who likes to give this sort of warranty way beyond everyone else - they are either VERY confident in the product, OR covering the buttox in order for you to buy & keep.

The TG Vauxhaull with its lifetime warranty is very funny ( the small print says 100 000 miles).

The Vauxhall one also only applies to the first owner, so subsequent owners get nothing at all. Nice if you buy an ex-demo :)

The Kia 7 year warranty is only for engine and gearbox. Bits drop out of the warranty over time, so its not that comprehensive. However, the engine and gearbox are the most expensive parts, so I don't think its too bad.

There have been reports on some of the caravan forums of "problems" with the 7 year warranty. It appears that the small print needs VERY careful reading!

There are a lot of negative reviews from owners when trying to claim against the Kia warranty. I looked at this when considering the Sportage or Carens and it put me off the marque. The drive wasn't that good in either model as well.

I had a mark 1soul which was a lot more basic than the latest one ,bit plasticky but a massive amount of interior space ,for the price a fantastic car,the new one is a huge leap forward in quality and never had a problem in 3 years,I had the 1.6 diesel which was a good engine 129 bhp 2 wheel drive but can no way be compared to to most of the yeti range and after having the 170 bhp in the vrs was the main reason going to a yeti.

My Father has a Soul still under warranty the Air Con packed up, not covered as Air Con warranty only 18 months!

Does warranty have different conditions in the Bailiwick?

Does warranty have different conditions in the Bailiwick?

Good question!

One of the reports on one of the caravan forums was of someone who had a gearbox problem after 3 years, and was (reportedly) told by Kia that since he towed a caravan the gearbox wasn't covered! I seem to remember the owner threatened to take Kia to Court and only then was it settled.

It is always the fine print that one must check regarding warranty.

Going to a trusty garage will always be cheaper.

If you ever need a job done by KIA they will always be happy to accept you.

The Vauxhall warranty *is* transferrable to you on an ex-demo car that's below a certain age. I was looking into this when considering a nearly new Cascada.

It strikes me this isn't the most factually enlightening thread in the history of factually enlightening threads.  And included are the usual offerings along the lines that if it's not a Skoda it must be carp.

This is what Kia put into print for those who can be bothered to look..........http://www.kia.co.uk/~/media/pdf/warranty/kia%207%20year%20warranty%20terms%20and%20exclusions.ashx

I don't have a Kia (but do have a Hyundai which is under an associated management structure) but some of of the stuff written above is either wrong or misguided (the latter being my opinion, of course).

People complain when manufacturers don't give a long enough warranty.  And then they moan when manufacturers DO give a long warranty.

I'm not daft enough to ignore the fact that to maintain a warranty the vehicle has to be maintained in accordance with...etc etc, etc... and, by default, some owners simply go to the main dealer for servicing...and dealers and manufacturers know this only too well.  But it's not obligatory, provided certain conditions are fulfilled you can go elsewhere...we all know that.  And there are distinct advantages to main dealer servicing if problems happen to arise either within or outwith warranty, all of which are perfectly obvious.

And a post like -"it is always the fine print that one must check regarding warranty.Going to a trusty garage will always be cheaper. If you ever need a job done by KIA they will always be happy to accept you."  is not what I call helpful or indeed correct.  It's pretty obvious you need to check the fine print,  that's why they publish it.  And going to a "trusty dealer" isn't always cheaper or the best course of action for all the obvious reasons which I don't need to reiterate here.    And I don't understand what   "If you ever need a job done by KIA they will always be happy to accept you."   is supposed to mean either.

Of course there will be grizzlers on caravan forums... that's what people do on forums but there's not a lot of fact attached to the observation is there?  If you look on this site there are  complaints about DSG but I don't see the VAG group withdrawing it because there have been some complaints.  The same applies throughout the motor industry - or any other industry come to that.

The expression 'damned if you do'...etc springs to mind.

No, all vehicles are supplied through the UK so have the same warranties as a vehicle sold in the UK.
