VRS estate, got one!

Featured Replies

Evening all, I thought I'd come on here and thank everyone for all the help, I agreed a deal today for a VRS estate.

I'd waited for ages to try and hunt down the spec I wanted, and thankfully got about 90% of it.

In time honoured fashion though I'm already thinking of what changes I can make to make it "mine", so here goes, as always thoughts / advice / help welcome.

Front Grille - will upgrade to the black monte one with the new badge, might just do the top one and leave the bottom one fir something a bit different. I'm going for a chrome / black / white look.

Rear boot badge - will be changed to new style

Rear Fabia logo - will be removed and just leave the VRS logo

Sunglasses holder - should be an easy cheap upgrade

Mats - no mats in the car but have seen some on eBay that will tide me over for the time being

SatNav unit - torn between the kenwood unit skoda are pushing, and the old Columbus. Main difference is Kenwood has built in Bluetooth. Does anyone know if it works with maxi dot?

Eibachs - these will be going on as soon as I can get more cash together.

Airbag cover - controversial change, I like the chrome surround but I haven't seen one with the new badge and chrome. Also, messing with the airbag feels dodgy, so I'll see what the garage says.

Can anyone recommend a good value, quality Skoda specialist in or around Bradford / Leeds?

Can anyone think of anything else? I also thought about changing out the spark plugs if it hasn't been done?

I'm so happy yo be getting my hands on one!, thanks again all.

Congratulations, but remember when you pick it up, post pictures or it didn't happen :D

the estates are the best :)

sorry mr rider but you are mistaken, you only bought an estate coz ur eyesight is failing and you couldnt see your little furby in the car park so you bought the bigger one

as i say to the misses, little ones get into more places ;)

Brilliant news mate :-). Enjoy! Welcome to the club.

Cheers all, looking forward to picking it up. Any thoughts on the sat nav or other changes?

You can retrofit the bluetooth phone prep so it works with a Columbus. Good luck finding an airbag with the new logo and chrome, I'm not sure they've ever made them. Tempted to de-badge, new logo and black grill mine. And what's all this about estates being the best?  Surely they are the only VRS Mk2? Skoda would have been mad to produce a hatchback one. ;-)

Yeah estates are the way forward. Badging is the right move for me I thought about the black grille, but I think the chrome with the new badge will look smart. Plus my one is white so don't want it all just black and white.

I might invest in the kenwood, that's got Bluetooth built in so might save a couple of quid.

Steering wheel you're right, I'd like on of the new wheels, but that seems like a big job (expensive).

I'll get the little bits done then see what else I can do. Happy trails.

Congrats on the Estate, they are awesome. Boot is just fantastic for the size of car.

macca72,  congratulations.

What did you get in the end, age and colour?

Agreed - when mine was being repaired after trying to mate with a wild boar, I had a 3 series touring for a couple of weeks.  Had to leave half my stuff at home as the boot in that was pathetically small in comparison.  Hell - I fitted more in the back of the Fabia than in my old Jeep Cherokee!

Cheers mate, got a 2011 in White. I paid a fair chunk less than I originally planned so I've got some spare cash for warranty, sat nav etc. it's pretty much got most of the extras on I wanted, only the Bluetooth and sat nav missing I think.

Good stuff.

Have you checked its past with Skoda UK?

(I am sure you got a different one from the white 2011 estate one Scottish Skoda Dealership was selling,

without mentioning it had had 2 engines replaced by them.)

I did speak to Skoda UK and the dealer who sold the car new and has serviced it 3 times from new. No issues to report on either front. For peace of mind I also spoke to Car Care Plan (Skoda warranty underwriters) and I have in writing from them that I I purchase a Skoda Extended, all issues are covered.

It seems a very tidy, clean car. I guess time will tell but I have some comfort. I also thought about time / mileage and I will be able to extend the warranty again if I like, as I won't have hit either threshold for Warranty exclusions.

'Brian 69' & I bought the '2 Year Skoda Approved Extended Warranties' via Skoda Dealers, i paid £547.

We received the 'Car Care Plan ltd' paperwork.

Probably as well buying direct from 'Car Care Plan' for less money.

(Be aware of Exclusions in the 'Car Care Policy Booklet'. some (Courier etc) Commercial uses, Motorsport,

& any Modifications requiring Prior Approval & it states who can do them. on page 6.)

Quick update, I pick up the car on Friday. With my limited spare cash left over I've ordered the following, to be fit as soon as I get home...

New style badges for front, rear and centre wheels

Sunglasses Holder

Set of mats

Eibach springs

I've seen from most thread so here that the standard mudflaps for the estate will fit the VRS, accurate?

That only leaves me with the Sat Nav issue. This needs some more thought as I may just go for an iPhone dock fitted, but we'll see on that one.

Awesome. I'm also looking at badges, springs and sunglasses holder. Where did you pick them up? Prices? :-)

Badges was a bundle from eBay, normally I wouldn't, but the seller looks 100% genuine Skoda parts, cost me £59.50

Sunglasses holder was from superskoda 30 euros

Springs I bought from Skoda Parts, £171

I also bought (again from eBay) a set of the Osram Nightbreaker headlight bulbs £15

All the advice came from here, all seemed like sensible worthwhile upgrades.

One more question, does anyone have a link to, or part numbers for the mudflaps that fit the estate (I know this has been covered before, but want to make sure I get the right ones)

Cheers

After looking aroung the sunglasses holder worked out cheapest from my local Skoda garage.  I'm going to try and pop in to them on thursday to order some bits I need. Whilst I'm in there I'll be checking on the price of the badges and how much the Eibach springs costs to buy and for them to fit. I normally do most work myself but the cost of the few specialist tools (12 point socket for the drive shaft nut, strut top cap socket, strut bottom mount expander and specific spring compressors) might outweigh the labour to fit them.

Yeah I accept I might have paid ever so slightly over the odds, but I paid for convenience and quicker delivery. Good luck with the fitting, I'm not that handy sadly, so I'll be throwing a couple of quid at it to get it all fitted.
