Hats off to you for doing this - This has progressed quicker than the Citygo go   :p  ( Sorry Richard :D  )

If you can keep this going for around 18 - 24 months you will prob make money back off it when it is no longer needed ;)

So... The rear view mirror fell off :/ the super glue went funny in the sun and the mirror had fallen off!

Appauling, after almost 20 years.

I suggest buying a new car immediately for over £20,000.

Then accept the fact that it loses £500 per month in the first year and you too can be secure in the knowledge that your rear view mirror will probably remain in place.

Or you could pay £1 for a new sticky pad... :D

I have some of the 3m GoPro pads spare (job lot) if you want one new time you are passing.

lol! well it was held on with tape when i got it then i glued it one with Loctite superglue. So i feel a law suite coming along :D

Was going to get some Araldite made up at work and use a bit of it.

a colleague suggested using a screw through the windscreen haha

As CEO of Bodge it, Leg it and Scarper PLC, I dont feel its necessary to purchase a £20,000,000 car :p

I must be the main shareholder then. ;):D

I've got a couple of these you can have ...

...but I can't see that they'd make very comfortable seats.

CV Joints, who the hell thought that would be a good idea!!!

Did the outer one fine, but in the process accidently tore the inner!!! ARgghhhhh!

Problem is to remove the inner CV boot, you need to remove the driveshaft itself, I..e buy new nuts and a bolt (which are all one time use) and do everything ive just done, again!

as the inner boot has to be fitted with the outer joint off!

Sod that for a game of soldiers, so i cleaned up the outside of the boot and busted out the black silicon sealant, job done. will have to see how it holds. But I cannot be bothered to buy two CV boot kits, Gearbox oil top up and then the £6.90 for a new hub nut and wishbone clinch nut/bolt. probably totaling around £30

not worth the hassle. due to the construction of the car, i can get to the Inner CV boot from the top of the engine bay, so ill jsut keep applying layers of sleant to hold it.

and to be honest the Driveshafts are originals and have a fair bit of play in them anyway, so its probably all shagged out along with the suspension stuts.

had some more issues with the fiesta tonight. so here the fault condition:

1) Seems down on power, struggles to get to 40mph on a duel carriage way which is a 50 limit,

2) Loud Drone, this drone consistently gets louder with engine speed, in any gear, at any speed. its pitch is constant, but may also get quieter with gears So its loudest in 1st and quietest in 4th, then again this may just be other noise making it more difficult to tell. I cannot remember if i tried it in neutral and i didnt try 5th or Reverse. It is loudest upon acceleration, when at fixed road/engine speeds it quietens down. The sound disappears the moment the clutch is depressed. so sitting stationary there i no sound when reved from idle to 5krpm. the sound also disappears when coasting in gear.

For these reasons i doubt it is gearbox output shaft related, although i do have a split inner CV boot, which would tie up with the droning under acceleration, but it would not explain why it goes quiet when the clutch is depressed.

because its disappears when the clutch is depressed im also assuming the engine side of things is fine (albeit for some reason low on power).

The cars isnt behaving like a CVT gearbox when accelerating in a high gear (i.e. the revs shoot up with little increase in road speed) so i believe the clutch friction material is fine.

So to me it seems like its gearbox/Input shaft related. Apart from that my only other thought is a crack in the exhaust which is opened when the engine is loaded and rocks (when the clutch is dipped the engine doesnt really rock), it would explain the bad performance (it does have a Lambda/O2 sensor) and would cause it to change the fuel trim.

any one else got any thoughts?

een doing further investigation today.

I think its worn Main bearings. it turns out it makes the sound no matter what, only it is louder with engine load.

You can resolve all your Fiesta issues Taylor, with nothing more than a paraffin soaked rag and a box of matches

I'll give you £5 for it? ;) don't burn it yet!

its all going pete tong at the moment!

Potential Main bearing failure on the Fiesta

Spining Glow plug on the Fabia.

A Citigo which isnt selling but is SORNd with no insurance.

Not sure how expensive the main bearing replacement will be on the fiesta, ill admit its because of how i drive it (like a rally driver) which has caused the excessive wear and its now drastically low on power, struggling to do 40 on roads where ive previously done 60 (while driving to road conditions and within the limits of the law). So it has bitten back. Shame as if i scrap it ill loose everything (will get sub £100 for it scrap) so i really need to repair it cheaply. which given the fault, it wont be cheap. I will most likely need to lift the engine out to fix it as it would be a night mare doing it with the engine still in the bay.

So as you said James, a gallon of petrol and some matches may well fix it once and for all!

Not been a good week on the car side of things. If i could id turn it into a road rally car (or something very similar, an amateur car rally or something) then just go back to driving the Citigo.

Er, living in Chatham, that'll only be a matter of time ;) ;)

Been talking to a few petrol heads at work, which has thrown a few ideas my way about the sounds/lack of power.

Main suggestion ,apart from the general checks, was that as these engines dont have a knock sensor and control the knocking by adjusting the fuel trim, so if the lambda sensor is shot, it may burn a little lean and there fore hot, allowing for it to ping.

alternative idea is there is an issue with the ignition timing and isnt adjusting from idle (idles fine just doesnt rev)

Not sure about the noise but I still think burning it is the answer. Worst case scenario go back to the citigo until you get the Fabia on the road.

I'll up my offer to £10?

  • Author

Been offered £110 on Facebook. Lol and can claim the rosd tax back and keep the battery.

So around 200 quid lol

Dammit

Spot lights off, battery out, fuses out, just gotta work out how to drain about 4 gallons of petrol into a 1 gallon can lol
