Skoda Octavia II facelift - DRL

Featured Replies

In my country all Skoda Octavia II facelift were delivered with DRL activated. Though only DRL lights in front fog lights are active (there is additional bulb for DRL lights), which can be annoying and also dangerous on cars not equiped with light sensor (majority) because usually the driver forgets to turn on the lights when entering tunnel, etc. And there are no rear lights turned on.

Yes, this is the problem of famous Byte 18:

The cars are left hand drive. My question is, which is the default setting for current configuration (only DRL lights turned on in fog lights via additional bulb) and what is the setting that also rear parking lights would be turned on together with front DRL lights in fog light. Preferably without front parking lights turned on, but it would be acceptable also with them turned on.

Byte 18 is so "dangerous" that very few people will touch it - and this is why no one has answered this post.

If you want your tail lights on with your DRL's then the safest way is to head down to your Skoda dealer who can do this easily with their VAS dealer tool. For them it is just a tick box and the tool does the rest. Although I have VCDS this is what I did with my mk2.

Too many stories of people changing byte 18 and not being able to go back without a trip do the dealer :-(

Just to update this thread.

With VCDS this can be a little tricky (as xpower wrote), but it can be coded with VCP.

Also with different options for rear DRL lights (full rear drl, only smile DRL lights :) or even only upper line.
