Car's just been hit :(

Featured Replies

Right barny has kicked off over the road and the lady has reversed out sharpish and hit my car.

Could anyone who's had any bodywork done or may be in the know, give me a ball park rough approximate guess figure on what it'd cost to repair? Going to try and take it to the local body shop tomorrow to see if it'd be cheaper than the insurance (which I'm guessing it wont).

A lot of it is paint transfer, but there's a dent in on the arch and both rear alloys scratched.

Ah man that sucks! You could probably get a smart repairer to pull out the dents, which is about £45 per dent

Sucks that your car got hit :(

Surely if she hit it, claim off her insurance

And if she drove off, get the police involved, as she clearly committed an offence

Yeah we're most likely going to go through her insurance, I just said I'd get a rough quote from the body shop by my work unit to see if it was any cheaper for her. But the more I think about it, the more I doubt it.

Been here nearly three years and that's the only time I've spoke to her lol.

To be fair, I was blissfully unaware playing the xbox, she came over and explained everything and with it being near side, I prob wouldn't have noticed it straight away.

Why should you try to save her money just claim off her insurance through yours . It's a clear cut case and you won't have to pay access either. About £85 to a £1000 of damage there

I've had some jeb end hit my car twice, once on each side, in the past 3 weeks. Not as bad as yours mind

Fortunately never been in this situation before- so do I ring mine and inform them? Or wait for her to tell hers?

But yeah, true. Just my good hearted nature I suppose :)

Wife got hit by a car that just pulled out we claimed through ours and got a courtesy car and paid no excess . When its a clear cut case its straight forward . You can tell her you are going thruogh your insurance though

As said, just do it through insurance......you could probably T-cut it out and get the dent pulled out for minimal money, but why should you.

From recent experience of a body shop replacing the rear bumper on my Fabia after being rear ended by a truck (luckily just the bumper was damaged), they don't hold back with the costs when insurance is paying! If you took it to the body shop where I had my repair done, they'd certainly be looking to replace both alloy wheels, probably a new rear door and complete respray of the damaged rear panel......I reckon somewhere around £1000 - £1200.

did you take pics of her damage to? best practice

...probably a new rear door...

This is a must. It is extremely difficult to get a repair that lasts on the trailing edges of the door.

Sorry to see that Nathan. Doesn't look a million miles away from the damage on mine when a chap hit me. Mine was best part of £1,000 but the damage to yours looks a bit more :(.

Luckily managed to get mine done at 'mates rates' at the local skoda dealer.

Hope you get it all sorted mate.

Chuck me a text or pm if you need the funds for the other bits sent over sooner if it will be any help but fingers crossed the insurance will get it all sorted.

Had a similar car repaired at an insurance approved bodyshop recently. was about £400 if your still wanting a figure.

Thats not pretty. It won't be cheap, there is far more to the eye,

I'd agree with the suggestions of at least £1k above, only way to find out is get a quote though and confirm on here

I'd personally be concerned at how much the door has been peeled away from the line of the door pillar, if its not done right you could get water ingress, or the door not shutting properly, or just looking like crap.

£400ish sounds cheap for that kind of repair, where are the comparitive pics of damage. If they are that cheap, get it done by them then! But should go through her insurers really, so who cares how much it costs, you just want it fixed to be perfect.

You have 2 spoiled alloys for a start there, why should you have them repaired shouldn't you be getting new ones ? New alloys, and will cost over £100 each !

They wanted £1k at a local repairer for a dint to my wifes, involving a bit of a crack on the lower front bumper (you don't really see it, as the cars black anyway), a tiny bit of the front bonnet pulled in a bit

(you really don't notice that either, they wanted to replace the whole bonnet and bumper respray everything, now if this was my car and someone had hit me then I might be inclined to go for that but bearing in mind the muppet was driving her own car and caused it herself and could easily do again),

The security of one of headlight latched was compromised when the bumper stretched due to impact, I just glued it and the h/l adjustment is still okay and it passed MOT so can't be that bad. I think some of the under plastics also cracked a bit and should really be replaced. Again thought something you can get from a breaker really quite cheaply if you need.

Cosmetically you can't really tell it was even hit and I got very angry when I heard they wanted that much and insisted on returning the car without proceeding with any repairs, but does put into perspective what the insurance CAN decide to charge.

I didn't bother, its superficial and would end up paying it all in increased premiums anyway, but in this case I'd say it would be money earned if they said £1K+ through insurance due to the work involved

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll get all her details later and ring the insurance.

I recently had that and had mine written off. Bought car back took it to a friend of a friends garage going to cost me 650. Yours isn't as bad as mine I also had the door completely caved in

No chance a dent repair company could get that out properly, would still nedx to go to a bodyshop due to the creasing in panel.

I too think it could be heading towards being a write off.

If it does get written off buy it back cheap, its not impossible to repair, would definitely require time and patience though. Might be actually quids in then.

You would need, puller kit, filler, abrasives, polishes, paint (if you weren't looking for perfect and could settle for rattle job, or if anyone on here is kind enough to help with compressor job)

Then you might be looking at closer to a £100 repair, and whilst it may not be 100% perfect (but could be close down to the time and patience you got on the job)

If you need any help with that mate, let me know, my father now retired is/was an abrasives specialist for the best, 3M. He helped me repair my golf ball style pillar and I'm pretty happy with it now plus also better clued up on the best way to go about doing this kind of repair now.

You aren't a million miles from me if you do need any help over a weekend or something, best waiting til after we have moved house though, I'll have more room and won't be working in the street !

Thanks for all the advice guys. I'll get all her details later and ring the insurance.

I'd suggest taking a little time to get quotes and have a general look around the car. Insurance WANT you to use all of their services inc. courtesy car etc. Though the woman across the road hit your car, she did at least come over and admit to it. I'd also point out that a badly organized insurance job can be an utter PITA to sort out.

My last claim I ended up in a gutless courtesy car over Christmas. The job done wasn't brilliant and to top it all, I got a speeding NIP the next week. Someone being a little careless driving back from the valets, the day before returning it.

J.

Sorry about your damage to your car I recently had damage done to my car was parked doing some shopping a local supermarket came back front driver side wing badly dented and scrapes on bumper.Rang insurance they told me to go to there trusted repairer got a estimate it was for £1095 to repair. Now I thought that was quite excessive and having to pay the first £250 of claim so went to my local repair guy who stated it would be cheaper to put a new wing on than to remove and repair. So I asked for a price new wing spray and refit and spray slight damage on bumper cost £185 they had car just 3 days. They rang and said they would deliver my car back home brilliant job just cannot see the marks and brilliant paint job all round.

If you can avoid going through the insurance then I would. My car got hit while parked and next time my insurance was up for renewal it was a lot more expensive as a result

In the end the other party denied doing it and as there were no witnesses it fell through - So I had to pay for the repair anyway! I did mange to get the insurance back down to it's pre crash level, but only after insurance took the claim off my file. The were able to do this as there was no pay out.

Avoid the insurance if you can IMO!

Thanks for all the info and help, really appreciated. And thanks dominorising for the offer mate that's really good of you.

I am going to just go through the insurance, as the Mrs has been hassling me to 'do it properly', so we'll see! May have a wrote of car going cheap soon ;)

Hi  if you go through her insurer you can use their approved repairer or insist they use one of YOUR choice also if your insurer is aware of this they will class it as a fault claim until all repair costs have been settled (I have heard of nightmares with BMWs repaired by approved (but not BMW) repairers... eml issues and the like.

I'm sorry. Some knob has scraped mine on the rear wing. I'm fuming.
