Punctures

Featured Replies

I have had my Yeti for just 12 months ( I absolutely love it )  in that time I have had two punctures one front one rear wheel, one this week one about 4 months ago  both too close to the side wall to repair  Cost 2 x £140

The last one looked like an upholstery  pin only about 1/4" long .

I can not remember ever having a puncture before that could not be repaired and have had very few punctures in total

Could it be that the geometry of a Yeti is more likely to pick up punctures close to the side wall or is the make and type of tyre the problem or have I just been extreamly unlucky

Thanks

Hi we have similar yeti to you15 month old. No punctures at all (touch wood) maybe you were just unlucky. Hope you don't get anymore.

Great car though

4 years and no punctures!

(and prior to that 6 years with Freelanders!)

It's just [bad] luck. No punctures in my Touran for ? years, and then two damaged tyres in as many months that could not be repaired, puncture  and side wall. I also cycle it to work, and again nothing for a year or so, and then three in a week. The last one I rolled the bike out of the garage and an hour later when it went back in the tyre was down.

I had no punctures till I got a Yeti. Now had two, one in not so expensive winter tyre and one in expensive Dunlop. Both too close to sidewall to repair. I'm sure it is not a Yeti problem - just bad luck.

That ruling has been a godsend to the tyre dealers...Oh no that's too near the wall...you will need a new tyre sir.

Find another tyre centre. My local one does sidewall and shoulder repairs to British Standards.

They are not cheap and are called a "major repair" as they reconstruct the sidewall of the tyre in the process but at £45 it beats having to get a replacement tyre if there is plenty of life left.

Two punctures in two years, one winter tyre, one summer. Both near enough dead centre of the tread so both repaired, the first one cheaply by my local, the other over £20 whilst on holiday. SWMBO has had two trashed tyres in just over a year (potholes on the school run) in her i10 so I'm counting myself lucky! I don't think the Yeti is any more prone to them - it's just a bad luck thing.

I've had my Yeti about 14 months now and not had a puncture in 10,000 miles although just before I got rid of it my previous car, a Volvo V50, had a run of six in about as many weeks and over perhaps 2,000 miles including a complete blow out through the side wall so I think it just has to be luck of the draw (although I was beginning to wonder if I'd upset the gods of road detritus as I limped into the local tyre repairers for punctures four, five and six). I did read somewhere (can't remember where) that modern wide, low profile tyres are more prone to punctures (and extra width=more chance of picking up something nasty would seem to make sense) but even then it's probably just bad luck.

Thanks for all your responses, as well as being too close to the side wall the last one I had driven for over 100 miles that morning and the tyre must have been at least partially flat as the tyre had a ridge around it when I got it changed that the guy said was also a reason why the tyre could not be repaired. I did not know I had a puncture until a lorry driver beeped me , I would have thought i would feel it through the sterring , but  as  the majority of the miles had been motorway may be not too much steering reaction

My tyre pressure differential detector (standard Yeti extra) would have detected the above. Did so on both my punctures enabling me at least to drive to tyre repair place without changing wheel on both occasions before getting the bad news.
