November @ Oulton Park, Open Pitlane Trackday

Featured Replies

It is a rather rapid yet civilised place to be in all honesty, a silky smooth 3 litre straight six turbo, 231 bhp and 500+ nm torque, its claimed figure is 5.4 sec to 60mph and in all honesty I am inclined to think this is not far off.

Did I mention it is showing high 30's mpg too, not bad for an auto.

However, the few jobs I have done on this car so far have been murder, the damn thing fights you all the way. Something as simple as brake pads on the rear needs the whole rear wheel arch liner removing so as the sensor that only works once can be replaced, just no need! Even the onboard computer is like trying to work out the enigma code to do something as simple as reset the service light, it really is unnecessarily complicated and with all the timers running in the ECU for different things I am sure it will be a ticking bill.

I like it though as it blows 99% of things away from the traffic lights

  • I'll bring a tow rope just incase it's too wet for mine without a little help

  • I should be up for this. See how the ring trip goes in September first.

Well as September is nearly over I thought I would resurrect this thread for the track day in November, any fancy a cheap open pit lane day at Oulton Park?

I will be there, the Golf is being Mapped on 17th October so should perform well or at least better than it did at Bedford with its fuelling issues and ferocious appetite for fuel.

Very tempted.

I'll see if I can get the time off work as it's a fair old trek, I'm doing Monday at Brands as well that week.

I wouldn't mind jumping in the golf for a lap or two with you if don't mind, (providing I can get the time off work) that thing passed me about 14,000 times at how fast...

7/11/14 according to that link is £139 anyway. :P

Ash's birthday, i wont make it ;)

Price is increasing as the date gets closer, same old story, if you book early you get a discount, leave it to the last minute you pay more so get paid in before it goes up again  :D

Can't afford!

Not after Brands 5 days before.

Who has actually booked this already ?

Me I think and that is about it, not sure if Jason has booked on

I was there today on a msv day, had a laugh but Jesus, it was wet. Dried off about 3pm but it was a slow and steady pace all day. Didn't help that an MG Maestro dropped its oil on the 2nd sighting lap and proceeded to complete till the pits, you could see the racing line though. Hit and miss with the weather oct/nov but you can still make a day of it.

I did Cadwell in the wet, it was great fun, slipping and sliding and even a few pirouettes too, I will take whatever weather comes as it is the last one of the year and the first one out after mapping the car so I guess it is more of a testing session.

hope some of you guys can join me.

Sorry, I'm not doing this.  Need to watch the pennies over the Winter now my cost of living has just about doubled each month! :)

Booooooo

Anyone else coming along then ?

Just me and you Cossie?   There is even a free instructor and lunch is provided, what more would you want  :notme:

Looks like it, although I think Peter might give in and come along.

I hope so, are you booking a garage?  £20 I believe, I might get one as the weather might be a bit oo'er

Nah i've already paid £20 more than you as I didn't book early enough, so i'll take my chances on the day lol.

Besides I didn't like the bit where it says £20 for a garage, but thats only space for 1 car, which I think is a bit of a **** take.

I will get us a garage, I also know for a fact we can get two cars in there bumper to bumper. Then we have both paid the same.  Feel better?   :notme:

Im working in the morning but could get there for around half 2 to watch. How much is it for spectaculars?

  • Author

It's usually free to spectate.

It is free for spectators,  it is only £10 on the day to get a  passenger arm  band too,  fetch a helmet and you're in, if you feel brave you can get in with Cossie   :p

Hopefully I will get to marshal this one and give you guys some encouragement without having to pick up any pieces !!

Loaded up and ready to go tomorrow morning,  rain forecast for the most of tomorrow too

I was going to fit the front track wheels today, but after looking at the weather forecast I decided against it.

The 595's are still fitted to the back after the last trackday lol

Either way I guess when I get to Oulton in the morning, i'll be swapping a pair of wheels :D
