List price increase v Cruise control

Featured Replies

So back in December 2013 I ordered a Vrs TDi estate, amongst other options one of them was cruise control.

Now te MY15 vehicles come with cruise as standard. I've been given a build week of 21st July but the stealer is telling me that I have to pay for the cruise as the list price has increased by £400.

Has everyone who ordered cruise before MY15 had to pay for it?

I'm in the same position but haven't spoken to the dealer yet.

No harm in asking but the car has seen two price increases since December (not to mention 0% and servicing), so I don't think they are obliged to offer you anything back, unless you are lucky and have a charitable dealer.

The price is locked in when you order!  Tell your dealer you're relay what he has said to SUK as it doesn't sound right..... And watch him crap himself.

So if it's locked down when I order then it was locked down with me willing to pay for the cruise...?

I had something similar. I ordered on 23rd December and I wanted to add Colour Maxidot and Sunset Glass in January. My dealer told me that because of the list price increases (effective from 1st January) the cost of the colour maxidot alone would be in excess of £200 (despite being an £85 option!). Alas, my car doesn't have colour maxidot or sunset glass :(

oh hang on, my mistake i misread and thought the dealer was asking for extra from you just because cruise was ow standard.

I still think the price is locked down though....you have an agreed spec and price.

you are still getting a better deal then especially with 0% and 3 free services

You won't have to pay anything extra - your prices is locked, and that is that...

In fact I spec'd cruise on my Feb order, and my dealer gave me back the cost because it was now standard!! (I did also add a load of other options at the same time)

I ordered in December and mentioned that it is now standard on the VRS and I got a refund, I was told that SUK was covering the cost, either way, it shouldn't be going up in price!

I mentioned it to my dealer also, was told the cc option cost would be removed from my final invoice price. Basically I ordered an option which is no longer an option so I can't be charged for it.

What is the build week cut off date for CC being a standard fitment ?

Yes, but in the meantime the cost has gone up to cover the option that is now free...you can't have it both ways and you're still better off than if you'd ordered later???

Perhaps, only saying how it was explained at the dealers. I placed an order for a standard car plus the options. We signed a contract, they can't up the price, and I can't further negotiate a cheaper price.

Anyway it's only cc, not like its a pano roof as standard, then they might as for a few £££ extra

Exactly...

What I meant was once the price is negotiated you can't choose to renegotiate on just part of the deal. You either go by what the prices were then (option and standard car) or you rip up the deal and go with what the new price is now but with the free CC chucked in...    The CC is only free now because they've upped the overall price to now cover it.

Think a few others miss read the op as I did and thought you speced without cc but since you got it your dealer had demanded more from you.  I later realised you speced it originally,/asked if you were due some cash back as it's now standard, and were told no as the whole car pricing regime has changed ( increase in basic spec rrp as well as adding cc to basic spec).

It's an interesting point though, those of us who specced cruise may not get a refund now it's standard, but anyone who didn't tick the box will now be getting it FOC.

That's the post that hits the nail squarely on the head!

According to Skoda's bulletin on the MY15 changeover (as can be found on the '2015-Model' thread), 'Customer-tagged orders converted from MY14 to MY15 will be price protected".

This essentially means that if the dealer specified CC as an optional extra, its extra cost will have been locked into the price they'll have contracted to pay the manufacturer, and therefore locked into the price the end customer has contracted to pay the dealer… but as Spudey states, if the dealer didn't specify CC as an optional extra, its extra cost won't have been locked into the price they'll have contracted to pay the manufacturer, and won't have been locked into the price the end customer has contracted to pay the dealer… but they'll be getting it anyway… which calls for an email to SUK!

But someone who ordered an MY15 car and not spec'd it will while getting CC as standard be paying the £400 price increase whereas if you've ordered a MY14 with cruise you'll get a MY15 car for the price of a MY14+CC, so the same car but £220 cheaper...... I wouldn't be complaining at saving over £200.....

badically somer people get lucky, some don't.  don't feel bad you missed out, feel glad for those that got lucky.  I could start complaining that I wait 5.5 months and then get a bw20 car....2 weeks later I'd have got cruise.  That would be a daft complaint though.  skoda have to draw a line somewhere, and i wasn't as lucky as those that got a my2015 car and free cc....but I was luckier than those that paid for cc and waited longer than me.

Yeah but... no but... it's a tricky one... and I do understand what you're trying to say, but the reason I'm getting a MY15 car and it's increased in price (twice) since I ordered it on 14th December is 'cos it's taken Skoda so bl##dy long to build it, so firstly, I don't see how I'm saving over £200 for that exact reason (plus I didn't order it on the basis of it being a future's contract), and secondly, am I (or anyone else similarly) somehow supposed to feel lucky that I'm not being charged the MY15 price for it because of Skoda's overtly lengthy build times and pricing policies?

If someone quoted to paint your house, turned up 4 months late to do the job, and then told you the paint had gone up in price in meantime and that you should be grateful they're not charging you extra for it, would you say you would be feeling lucky?

There's going to be divided opinion on this, and that's fine, but my (personal) take on this is that it's Skoda's decisions that have led to my car's build time spanning two price increases and ultimately the MY15 changeover. If the car I originally ordered had had CC as standard it would be £180 less... and the car I'm receiving has CC as standard, so should be £180 less!

Err doubt it. It the my14 car had cc s standard the standard rrp would have been higher than it was.

I can see how you feel, and sort of wish I'd had cc myself, but really come on, life is never perfect and equal.  Accept it and move on, or change your name from a funny ventriloquist act prop to Victor Meldrew

Ah ha... how do you know that's not my real name anyway!

Divided opinions as I said, but if you don't ask you don't get... worst they can do is say no!

At least I get the seemingly sought after vRS button and the Allegro steering wheel...
