cyanogenmod for Android

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Recently put this mod on my Galaxy S4 and so far so good!

I would appreciate any feedback you may have, having this mod on your phone.

BTW - If this post has gained interest be aware installing this may void warranty!

Did you need to root it?

I have CM on my nook hd+ (9" 1080p screen). Mostly behaves itself but the odd lockup and touchscreen freezing. Had it on my original sgs1 too. Fine on that. I assume you got it from XDA forums? Great bunch of guys developing on there.

I have kept my S4 stock as it still has warranty.

Did you need to root it?

For the older models, yes. For newer ones there's an app to run, on both device and PC which does everything for you. :) :)

For the older ones there are some excellent step-by-step guides.

So far:

SGS2 onto CM10

SGS3 onto CM10

Another SGS3 onto CM11 (M7) via the installer

SGNote 3 onto CM11 (M7) via root and boot menu

CM11(M7) isn't doing so bad. As with all beta software there are glitches and issues (mine seem to be sound related and freezing/rebooting - although this never happens at a crucial moment)

CM10, as experienced so far, solid with no issues to report.

Everything I've installed has worked without issue (as you'd expect really). No isht from O2 and Vodapoo stealing resources. Freedom to install apps that I want and root access as required is refreshing.

Useful apps to have:

Titanium Backup - removes the last vestiges of irrelevant software (CellBroadcast)

Tasker - makes things work when you want them to. I've got it so it will switch BT on when in car-dock and then set the phone for the car (and resets when not). Also when in car and a text is received it will flash a message across the screen. Also a personalised battery-low setting.

Agent - automessage when in car or bed or meeting.

Bluetooth Phonebook - when synch'd with RNS315, only contacts with numbers show up, and are sorted by firstname, lastname.

MyCarTracks - mileage logger for work.

.......several of these (Tasker, Titanium and Agent) seem to work a lot better with root access.

The only thing I miss between CM10 and CM11 is the ability to increase columns and rows on the home screen. On the Note3 everything seems so spaced apart.

I have had to revert back to stock. Running CM on Galaxy S4 and for some reason it started draining my battery in around an hour flat! A reboot of the phone and un-installing apps did not work.

On another note, the "black edition S4 ROM" works well on the standard S4. I had to use this ROM as I didn't back up the original :/

Caused by Google location service normally going crazy. It's been a known bug with CM10 supposedly.

Had many many ROMS on my S1 , S2 , S3 and S4.

On both the S3 and S4 ONLY the stock Samsung ROM plays nicely with my 2014 Rapid bluetooth. Although it is fine in other cars.

Apart from that CM11 is very very good.

For me , on both S3 and 4 , battery life was improved.

I had CM10 (I think) on my old Xperia Arc. I really liked it, but it murdered the battery! From about 3-4 days to one, regardless of clock speed.
